THE HAPPY CRAB TO OPEN ON ST. ELMO AVENUE IN BETHESDA (PHOTO)

The former Zelaya Shoes space on St. Elmo Avenue is now going to reopen as a seafood restaurant called The Happy Crab.

Wait a minute, didn't another crab restaurant announce it was opening this fall there?

Yes, but now The Crab Shack will be known as The Happy Crab, serving - surprise! - steamed crabs and other seafood entrées.

Two holdovers from the initial announcement:  they're still saying their crabs and seafood will be the best in Bethesda, and they're still referring to the restaurant as a "shack."

GO FISH! TRUCK RETURNS TO BETHESDA TODAY AT ROCKLEDGE

After some time off the road, Bethesda Magazine's reigning top food truck - the Go Fish! truck - returns to the streets today for lunch.

Owner Missy Carr says the truck will be at 6705 Rockledge Drive from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM today. On the menu are lobster rolls, fish tacos, crab cakes, fish bowls and soup.

The fish is purchased fresh, and the crab products are made with real Maryland crab.

FOURTH OF JULY RECIPE: CRAB CAKES WITH FIRE AND ICE SALSA

Here is the perfect recipe to add to your steak you are already planning to grill for July 4th:  Phillips Crab Cakes with Fire and Ice Salsa.

The recipe is for the salsa.  With Phillips Crab Cakes from the freezer aisle, all you have to do is sautee them following the easy package instructions.  Then add your homemade Fire and Ice Salsa on the side.

As usual, I will be adding a spoonful of tartar sauce to go with my crab cake.

FREDDY'S LOBSTER'S

NEW

(OCEAN)FRONT DESIGN

New England-Style Seafood Restaurant

Gets Closer to the Beach in Bethesda

Another Robert Dyer @ Bethesda Row Exclusive!!!

Regular customers or passersby at Bethesda's Freddy's Lobster and Clams have likely noticed the work being done out in front of the Cordell Avenue restaurant.

Freddy's' "extreme makeover" appears to be just about finished, and here are photos of the result. In addition to being an upgrade of the original, the redesign would be at home on any famous Atlantic boardwalk. If you turned around 180 degrees, you would expect the beach and the ocean to be behind you. Who knows, maybe Freddy's will one day follow Mussel Bar to Atlantic City (or, preferably, Ocean City!).

But for now, the only place in the world to enjoy Freddy's lobster rolls, one-day-a-week fried chicken special, and stupendous beer list is right here in Bethesda! Now, if they can just replace the sidewalk with a boardwalk...
