La Madeleine temporarily closed in Bethesda

La Madeleine French Bakery & Cafe has unexpectedly closed "temporarily" at 7607 Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda. No explanation has been provided by the restaurant for the closure.
The property is expected to be redeveloped in the future, but that would obviously be a permanent - not temporary - closure, leaving prospective diners to speculate why the restaurant has gone dark. Recorded music was still emanating from speakers outside the shuttered establishment last evening.

It can stay closed. It's awful.

I mostly agree. Their food was decent but it was overpriced and undersized.

I'm beyond devastated. I eat here at least once, and sometimes twice, each day.

La Madeleine is a great place!
Great food, and a family-friendly atmosphere.
It didn't put on any airs, or charge an arm and a leg.
I'll be very sad to see it go-- Bethesda needs more places like it!

La Madeleine was a great place for get togethers. I will miss it.

It was the best place to carry on business. Good food, free WiFi and room to spread out. It seems it is closed permanently, it is no longer listed on company web dite

I contacted their corporate office and they are still planning to reopen! Thankfully, as it was a place I went frequently and is unique in Bethesda. They already re-opened Old Town Alexandria again and will also be reopening Tysons Corner.

To top commenter "Anonymous": YOU'RE awful. your utterly worthless commented is unwanted, unhelpful, and, frankly mean. LM had some of the best sandwiches in the area, and their fresh french rolls are sublime.
