A hectic scene played out in downtown Bethesda's Woodmont Triangle late Wednesday night, May 1, 2024, after a man was allegedly stabbed and robbed. Several details remain unclear, as Montgomery County police have not publicly commented on the incident yet. Here's what we know so far, based on accounts of residents and visitors in the area, and police communications at the time:
Shortly before midnight Wednesday, there was a commotion near the 7-Eleven at 7820 Wisconsin Avenue. People in that area recall hearing a man yelling loudly. Police were dispatched to the 7-Eleven at 11:54 PM. Montgomery County police officers soon arrived at the convenience store. Bystanders were reporting that someone had been robbed.
It then seems there was a second 911 call from Tommy Joe's at 7940 Norfolk Avenue, where the male victim apparently sought help, as the restaurant and bar were still open at that hour. Police located the victim. An officer reported to a dispatcher that the victim had a "large gash" knife wound. Police said the suspect was last seen fleeing toward the Bethesda Metro station. No one I've spoken to so far was an eyewitness to the actual robbery itself.
@DCNewsLive on Twitter reported that a laptop might have been what was taken by the robber, and that the victim's wound was on his arm. @CordellTraffic reported that officers applied a tourniquet to the victim's arm, and that he was then transported to a hospital. The victim's injury was not believed to be life-threatening at the time. No further information has been released as of this writing. If this was a random attack, it is certainly one of the more shocking incidents to occur during this ongoing crime wave.

That seems to have become the de-facto epicenter of criminal activity.
Noticed today that a MCPO was hovering around the corner where Nike sits. I passed the intersection a few times spanning quite a few hours, is he essentially anchored there? Does Nike pay for it? There's a squad car predominantly parked. It appears that Nike is either getting special attention at the county's expense or their paying for it out of pocket. I hope Nike being here is ultimately good for Bethesda.
The victim in this case ran quit a distance to seek help, 7-11 to Tommy Joe's is a real sprint almost a quarter mile. Why not run back to 7-11, Rock Bottom, or any closer open business. Sounds a bit sketchy to me.
9:58: It's hard to know in every case. Off-duty police officers often work as security for retail centers like Bethesda Row or The Collection at Chevy Chase, and are paid by the property owner. Other times it can be officers trying to be more visible after crimes have taken place. A police officer in uniform has been seen guarding the door sometimes inside the Nike store, so my guess would be the officer is being paid by Nike or Federal Realty in this case. It would be really smart for the police to wait at that corner, as they would be able to arrest many shoplifters.
I never go to that 7-11 but they obviously need Aggressive 24 Hour Surveillance !! I hope they get it !

Hmmmm, unless, of course, the police presence merely moves the crime elsewhere... that's the opportunistic nature of crime we hear so much about lately.

Based on the info I heard, a woman coming back from work was being robbed. The man in a couple intervened to help. He (the innnocent bystander) was stabbed. His girlfriend sought help (as we was injured).
Maybe the victim knew or thought the perp had friends there. They usually aren't alone, unfortunately.

In a business oriented society, the lowest person on the totem pole pays for its existence.
Certainly it would be happening regardless of who's 'in charge,' particularly being so close to DC and PG, (and SS and Wheaton), but we could mitigate it by electing people who respect laws and law enforcement which this county, in particular, chooses not to do. It's likely too.late anyway. Who wants to be a Police person? They'd be fools with MC as it is today.
Of course the report given out from the PD doesn't mention a woman victim, we don't want to cast a bad light on the perp.
Nothing good happens after midnight. 11:54 is close enough. Not good in downtown Bethesda that's for sure. We are becoming SS and that's definitely not good

I see his ads occasionally on Digital broadcast. I do wish he was a candidate here but he'd be obviously too beneficial and healthy for us.
