Nextdoor removes Montgomery County Charlie Kirk prayer vigil post

Nextdoor
has removed a post informing users about Montgomery County-area prayer vigils being held for Charlie Kirk, the leader of the conservative organization Turning Point USA, who was assassinated last week in Utah. It included one taking place in Rockville on September 20. The Nextdoor user who posted it sent me a few screen shots of their post, which did not include any political statements, much less any offensive language. Some time later, the user was informed that their post had been hidden, and will ultimately be removed altogether, because a post about a timely event taking place in Rockville is supposedly a "non-local topic outside of a group."

The user has appealed the removal of the post. In contrast, comments promoting violence against Kirk that were posted in response to the vigil announcement have been allowed to remain on Nextdoor.

I am not on the NextDoor Platform. The next time I get an invitation to join I will tell them why I never will. How is it supported? We need to get after the funders about the double standard.

Shocker. Not.

Wait, what!

Conservatives hate your ideas, Liberals hate you.

The longer they keep up this misguided outrage, the longer it'll take for the political 'pendulum to swing the other way.' Soon it'll be all 90 - 10 issues, then what?

9:52 - there's no governing body, most likely for the next door platform. It's basically a glorified neighborhood listserv. I've never been on it and never will. Not a shock by anyone that they removed something so benign and something so non -offensive as a vigil. Can you imagine in your wildest dreams them removing BLM rally an anti Tesla rally or anything of the like? No of course not. It would never happen.

I would have left the post up. At the same time, private entities are applauded for canceling a show and firing people. Now, a different private entity is being attacked for making a determination on a different matter. Don’t get too upset.

JAC the rules are clearly stated - no national politics

I just want to say, with all of the chaos and fingering pointing that is going on right now, we should all come together and do what Charlie always did and would want us to do too... blame immigrants and marginalized groups of people.
