Two assaults in downtown Bethesda Saturday
Two assaults were reported in downtown Bethesda yesterday, May 16, 2026. The first took place in an alleyway in the 4700 block of Elm Street at 1:02 AM Saturday. Last night, a 2nd-degree assault was reported in the 5000 block of Hampden Lane at 8:54 PM. That is a short block that is closed to traffic where it runs alongside the Connie Morella Bethesda Library.

Sounds like drunken bar fights
Ironically right where the brutha' "teaches" a self-defense "class" in the open air...
What's the purpose of the cops parked near the Apple Store?
I always wondered if the privately paid MC police (I hope for their focused. efforts) would readily respond to a citizen's issue, or would they call in another LEO from afar? Between the Apple store, Lululemon, and especially NIKE they have their hands full right off. I bet Sephora is more eager to just 'write off' their 'shrinkage' and forgo police presence.
'Assaults' can be most anything from overblown misunderstandings to hurt feelings... but not to worry, Summer is coming and it's always hoodie and mask season around here so we'll have many more crimes of specific intent in due time!
They have been a permanent fixture since the Lululemon murder.
A Nightmare on Elm Street?
to look good.
The one at 1:02 AM definitely does. The one at 8:54 PM happened by the park so it was likely some middle/high school kids that got into a tussle.
Brutha?
The cops are crossing guards for the adult-kids who will threaten to file a law suit to anyone who fails to stop for them.
A Nightmare In MoCo.
The 'adult-kids' is that a euphemism for jaywalkers?
No. The one Sargent I spoke with verified that they are paid by Federal Realty specifically to ticket illegal parking mainly to keep the area ready for fire trucks or rescue squad to hook up water or stage in close proximity. You sir, could stroll right into the Apple store with a gold Glock, Rob the place, then make your getaway in your stolen gold BMW and nothing would happen. Think I'm joking? I assure you I am not.
Lol, Federal Realty can't really memorialize that the privately paid MC Police are there for crime. It's obvious that side of the street and NIKE corner is the touch zone. It would be too indicative if they camped out in front of Nike. Very interesting, thanks

Hi! Just wondering why "teaches" and "class" are in quotation marks? <3
Just picked up my voter guide at Connie Morella and saw proof that mcDoNuthin' is running unaposed. I can't believe that there's not a lawyer type person around here qualified enough to even try running for office... And on another note, I don't know where district 6 is but the infamous (R) Robin Ficker is running for something. Can HE clean up the mess MoCo has become? --ps, yeah I know he yelled at Bullets games and actually had an office above Super Sunny Surplus (wonder what he thinks about what that block looks like now?
Actually, he is running against his own shadow so either way he is a shoo-in.
You mean McGruff?
https://bethesdamagazine.com/2017/10/23/bethesda-interview-john-mccarthy/ Q: Why did you decide to become an attorney? A: …Plus, there were a lot of lawyer shows on TV, The Defenders and Perry Mason. Lawyers were always held up to be esteemed members of the community. I thought it was an important job to do.
The full time state prosecutor
And part time circumlocutor
Is running again for reelection
In order to top off his pension.
