The interior of the space vacated by Terrain Cafe at 7728 Woodmont Avenue at Bethesda Row last year is now being demolished. Terrain Cafe closed in December 2023. How Anthropologie & Co. intends to use the space going forward has not been publicly announced. The timing suggests it could become more retail display space for the holiday shopping season, but that is merely speculation.

Anthropologie & Co. ready for Christmas at Bethesda Row (Photos)
Today is only Halloween, but Anthropologie & Co. at Bethesda Row is already looking past Thanksgiving to the holiday shopping season. Their 4801 Bethesda Avenue showroom is decked out for Christmas, and highlighting seasonal decor in the windows. "Making merry" is the phrase applied to a display windowpane, which apparently rhymes with cherry, as two giant maraschinos behind the glass attest. Premium holiday lights from Stargazer Garden Lights, and the brand's 8" hanging Lightorb sphere, are among the decorating options in stock. From the Voluspa Noble Fir Garland Glass Candle to Cecilia Pettersson flannel pajamas to a London-themed Holiday in the City mug, Anthropologie is calling its winter 2023 lineup "our most decadent holiday collection yet."

Anthropologie & Co., Terrain Cafe now open at Bethesda Row (Photos)
Three floors of shopping successfully opened in the former Barnes & Noble space at Bethesda Row yesterday. The turnout at Anthropologie & Co. was quite good, and diners were still trying out the department store's Terrain Cafe near 10:00 PM last night. A holiday theme is already setting the tone for Christmas shopping and winter wardrobes.
The cafe is helmed by Chef Kevin Ettenson, a veteran of Red's Table (where he was most recently executive chef), Arcuri, Sonoma, and Mad Fox Brewing Co. While the menu generally follows those of the other cafe locations around the country, you'll notice local ingredients exclusive to this outpost of Terrain, such as Maryland crab meat. This is the fifth Terrain Cafe nationwide.

Anthropologie & Co. sets opening date at Bethesda Row, to close Chevy Chase location
Anthropologie & Co. has said it would open at Bethesda Row next month for some time, but now we know what day it will be. The store, which replaces the departed Barnes & Noble, will open Thursday, October 18, 2018.
But sooner than that, Anthropologie's existing Chevy Chase store in Friendship Heights will close, tomorrow, September 27, 2018. The new store is also a relatively new concept for the brand. Anthropologie & Co. offers a wider retail experience than earlier Anthropologie stores, including departments for apparel, shoes, beauty, wellness, home decor and furnishings, style consultation, BHLDN Weddings, garden and home decor from sister brand Terrain, and a Terrain Cafe with outdoor seating.
