Ice cream for breakfast at Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Bethesda Row Feb. 1

Ice cream is not just for dessert anymore. Starting this Saturday, February 1, 2025, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at 4918 Elm Street at Bethesda Row will begin serving Blueberry Johnny Cakes ice cream. "A flavor that hits all the savory-sweet high notes of a great breakfast," the company said in its announcement of the flavor and event. "Fluffy, honey-kissed cornbread pancakes, toasted to griddled perfection. Suspended in rich salted butter cream. And swirled with a bright blueberry-maple jam. Tastes like Saturday morning breakfast — but perfect anytime." A launch day celebration will be held at the Bethesda store on February 1 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with breakfast-inspired menu pairings, children's activities, and more.

Pop Tarts flavor is the toast of summer at Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Bethesda Row

Just as summer gets underway, a new flavor is popping up at Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at 4918 Elm Street at Bethesda Row. It's inspired by Pop Tarts. Not just any Pop Tart, but one of the most popular Pop Tart varieties of all time, Frosted Brown Sugar and Cinnamon. To the ice cream creators at Jeni's HQ, there frankly isn't any other kind.

"To us, there's only one way to enjoy Pop Tarts," Jeni's insists. "It has to be brown sugar cinnamon, frosted - served buttered, warm, soft, and gooey right out of the toaster. Now, take that exact time-stopping moment and suspend it in ice cream. That's what we've done."

"Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon ice cream is buttery crumbled pastry pieces in a cinnamon-caramel swirl in brown sugar and cinnamon sweet cream. Catch our collab flavor with Pop Tarts now for a limited time!"

There are 3 ways to get this flavor while it lasts. Have it shipped anywhere in the U.S. Make a local delivery order. Or stop in at the Bethesda Row store.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams now offering Bombastix Sundae Cone for summer at Bethesda Row

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams
at 4918 Elm Street at Bethesda Row welcomed a new summer flavor yesterday. Bombastix Sundae Cone will be available for a limited time this summer. It doubles down on two of your favorite dessert flavors: vanilla and chocolate. Double Vanilla Cream ice cream is combined with gooey fudge and chocolate-covered waffle pieces.

If you're seeking something more adventurous on a midsummer night, try a returning summer flavor, Golden Nectar. Amber yellow sweet cream ice cream is spiced with vanilla, clove, and ylang ylang, and finished with bits of toffee candy. Jeni's compares the flavor to a chilled chai beverage.

Bethesda construction update: Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams (Photos)

Can Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams meet their projected fall opening at Bethesda Row? They technically still have a full two months to work with, so they likely can, despite the interior fit-out still being in the earlier stages.
Walls are being constructed, but still no flooring, counters or finishes. Of course, an ice cream shop is much less complicated to build out than a restaurant preparing hot food. Many ice cream aficionados can't wait to find out who is King Cone at Bethesda Row - Haagen-Dazs, Dolcezza or Jeni's? Do they have what so many ice cream purveyors lack today - a secret ingredient, a la Howard Johnson?

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams "scooping soon" at Bethesda Row (Photos)

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams has put some "Coming Soon" window screens in their future Bethesda Row location on Elm Street next to the downsized Mamma Lucia. In Jeni's parlance, the company promises to be "scooping soon" in Bethesda.
The shop is also hiring for all positions, for those seeking post-summer employment. This is going to be a blockbuster showdown with Haagen Dazs and Dolcezza to see who is Top Scoop this fall.

Work begins on Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Bethesda Row

Construction of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is now underway on Elm Street at Bethesda Row. A space carved out of neighbor Mamma Lucia's formerly-larger dining room is being transformed into a new storefront for the ice cream shop. Now the question is, are they going to fix the sign that now just says, "Mamma?"

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams to open at Bethesda Row

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams will provide some competition for Haagen-Dazs and Dolcezza at Bethesda Row starting this fall. The chain will open its first Maryland "scoop shop" on Elm Street, Federal Realty announced in a press release Wednesday.

No street address is given for the shop, and there are two possibilities for its location assuming no current tenant closes. First, is the remaining half of the former Lebanese Taverna space at the corner of Elm and Arlington Road. However, a construction permit has been requested from Montgomery County to divide the Mamma Lucia space on Elm Street into two spaces, one being about a third of the existing 3000+ SF Mamma Lucia.

Mamma Lucia has not responded to inquiries about the construction permit as of this writing.

The Bethesda Row Jeni's will feature established favorites like Brambleberry Crisp and Gooey Butter Cake, along with a new line of dairy-free flavors to appeal to current trends. Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams was founded by Jeni Britton Bauer, a James Beard Award-winning cookbook author, in 2002.
