Peter's Carryout in Bethesda schedules annual summer break for late July

Like many small businesses that operate with a very small staff in Bethesda, Peter's Carryout at 8017 Wisconsin Avenue takes a short break for vacation each year, usually in the summer. For 2023, they have scheduled the temporary closure for July 22 through July 29. Peter's Carryout is best known for serving "Bethesda's Best Steak & Cheese." The compact restaurant has also gotten great respect from the usually-Bethesda-averse dining critics at The Washington Post over the last decade.

Bethesda's best cheesesteak returns. Peter's Carryout will reopen today, August 10, 2020, at 8017 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda. The popular eatery is concluding its annual late summer break.

Peter's Carryout takes annual summer break until August 12

There are two things you can count on at Peter's Carryout in downtown Bethesda - Bethesda's best cheesesteak and their annual summer break. Like many small businesses, when the owner takes a vacation, the business has to close. Peter's will be back open on normal hours on Monday, August 12, 2019.

Peter's Carryout takes summer break

Peter's Carryout (or is it Peter's Carry Out or Peter's Carry-Out? It's stylized many different ways on the front and on the website) is taking its annual summer break. The restaurant, which is a Bethesda institution for 3 meals a day and "Bethesda's best steak and cheese" sub, will reopen on Monday, August 8, 2016. Peter's is one of several small businesses that take an annual summer break in downtown Bethesda.

PETER'S CARRYOUT TEMPORARILY CLOSED THIS WEEK IN BETHESDA

Peter's Carryout will be closed through Saturday, August 9, and reopen for normal business hours next Monday, August 11.

There's no need for alarm; this is an annual vacation break, as happens at several other small businesses around downtown Bethesda. Everybody needs a vacation, and that requires having the costly personnel to run your business while you're gone. The "best cheesesteak in Bethesda" will be back Monday at 8017 Wisconsin Avenue.

PETER'S CARRY OUT AWNING REAPPEARS AFTER VANISHING IN BETHESDA (PHOTOS)

My prediction that a new awning might appear at Peter's Carry Out, where the old one disappeared last week, proved correct. The new one is black instead of the trademark red, and has a sleeker font and design. Interestingly, the business name is run together on this awning ("Carryout"), where the original said "Carry Out." The temporary sign has been taken down.

The venerable Peter's Carry Out appears to have lost its famous red awning. A new sign has taken its place, at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Cordell Avenue. It may just be temporary, as the awning-less building roofline leaves something to be desired aesthetically.

The new sign does tout Peter's cheesesteak as "Bethesda's Best." Another small hanging sign is no longer there, either. Fortunately for regulars, the food is the same.
