Maryland governor candidate Wes Moore visits Bethesda businesses

Wes Moore
, the Democratic nominee for Maryland governor, made a stop at several Bethesda businesses while on the campaign trail in Montgomery County today, including Smoke BBQ at 4858 Cordell Avenue. The candidate was touring the downtown with local Democratic elected officials. Montgomery County is a major prize in any statewide race, and a Democratic stronghold.

Moore's running mate, Montgomery County resident Aruna Miller, was also part of the entourage. Next Tuesday's election will find Moore facing off with Republican Dan Cox, Green Party candidate Nancy Wallace, Libertarian David Lashar, Working Class Party candidate David Harding, and Independent write-in candidate Kyle Sefcik for the highest office in Maryland.

Smoke BBQ burglarized in Bethesda (Photos)

Montgomery County police responded to a report of a burglary at Smoke BBQ at 4858 Cordell Avenue in Bethesda on Saturday morning, July 23, 2022. Officers found evidence of forced entry at the restaurant. Police responded to the call at 6:08 AM Saturday. A reader reports that officers were still on the scene investigating at 7:30 AM, wearing gloves and taking notes. It appears the front glass entrance was smashed to gain access, as in other recent commercial burglaries.

SMOKE BBQ TO CELEBRATE 2 YEARS IN BETHESDA SATURDAY AT 6:00 PM

A lot of new restaurants have trouble lasting months in downtown Bethesda, let alone years. Smoke BBQ is celebrating two years in this highly-competitive market this Saturday, January 17, and you're invited.

Enjoy $2 rib bones, $2 sliders, $2 domestic beers and $2 shooters among the anniversary specials, and live music by the James Transeau Band. There will also be prize giveaways.

The party will run from 6:00 PM to 2:30 AM.

SMOKE BBQ ADDS PATIO SEATING IN BETHESDA (PHOTOS)

When you think of real barbecue, it tends to be served in an outdoor setting. Now you can have that experience at Smoke BBQ on Cordell Avenue, in downtown Bethesda.

The restaurant has just added outdoor patio seating. I'm giving them major bonus points for Michelob umbrellas. Don't try to tell me your beer is classier; your craft brew doesn't have Cheryl Ladd on the commercial. "Weekends were made for Michelob." And barbecue.

SMOKE BBQ GRAND OPENING THIS SATURDAY IN BETHESDA

Smoke BBQ on Cordell Avenue will have its official Grand Opening this Saturday, July 20.

Wait a minute, you might say, didn't Smoke BBQ open 7 months ago?

Yes, it did.

But now they're making it official, and Saturday's event will benefit two military charities: Fisher House, and Folds of Honor.

Stop by for drink specials, raffles, and - not surprisingly - BBQ.

SMOKE BBQ BETHESDA OPEN - PHOTO OF FULL MENU (EXCLUSIVE)

Smoke BBQ opened yesterday on Cordell Avenue, and I have some photos for you, including the full Smoke BBQ menu (click the menu photo to enlarge).

There were quite a few families with kids dining there, probably because Smoke BBQ offers $5 kids meals.

Nothing on the menu will change the world, but it's something different for downtown Bethesda. The overall shortage of great barbeque in Montgomery County has led to a rise in BBQ trucks, carts and stands that are filling the vacuum.  It will be interesting to hear the early opinions on how this bricks-and-mortar BBQ spot stacks up to the ones on wheels.

BRICKSIDE CLOSER TO OPENING ON CORDELL AVENUE

The former Bubby's Deli on Cordell Avenue is getting a makeover, and its new tenant - Brickside - is well on its way to opening.

A liquor license application is in the window, and the restaurant joins Smoke BBQ in generating curiosity and speculation regarding exactly what will be on the menus there.  I'm hoping the Funnel Fries - funnel cake presented as french fries - from the owner's other restaurant, Grand Central, make it onto the Brickside menu.

Both will open this fall, if all goes well.

SMOKE BBQ BETHESDA - UPDATE ON NEW BBQ RESTAURANT

The old Asian Cafe space at 4858 Cordell Avenue has gotten a makeover.

New tenant Smoke BBQ has installed an awning out front.  The homestyle barbecue restaurant will open this summer.

Cordell is becoming home to a nice variety of cuisines.

The lights are on - and somebody's home - at Smoke BBQ.
