Nice to see them make it this far.
I hope Dyer's article isn't the kiss of death for them, as it was for the Roof.
1:46: Actually, it was the failure of Hans Riemer's "nighttime economy" initiative that was responsible. Roof was only one of several nightspots that closed since his "effort."
I would say the "buzzkill" prices at roof where what hurt the business and the terrible layout designed by the architect.
2:02: That's a stretch. I've never heard a restaurant closure blamed on the layout before. The fact is that the County's Nighttime Economy initiative failed to stimulate the nighttime economy. In fact, the County's other anti-business policies combined with that failure to hurt bar owners' bottom lines so much, they couldn't afford to keep going. I doubt a nicely-designed restaurant building with city lights window views and a rare rooftop space are to blame in this case.
Yep, the county single-handedly caused the closure of that restaurant. They saw you give it positive press so they worked effortlessly to shut it down. Now they'll do the same to Smoke.
Just stop your reporting and restaurants will stop closing.
Thanks!
Robert, do you realize that the Roof did not exist until 2014, and closed the same year? Surely you remember that the property was previously a furniture repair shop?
As such, it does not represent a net loss in night clubs for Bethesda.
2:55: This comment sounds like a press release from a psycho ward. Keep it up, you're really helping Hans Riemer's public image. Too bad the nighttime economy declined after his nighttime economy initiative.
Oh, and I'm still waiting for that list of nightclubs in 2010 versus 2014.
As well as all of those food trucks that supposedly disappeared.
3:43: Talk about a red herring. Roof joins Ri-Ra, BlackFinn and Relic as nightclubs that have closed in Bethesda. As such, they together do represent a net loss in nightclubs for Bethesda. Baba Booey.
3:46: Check above, and then try to find food trucks along the streets in downtown Bethesda tomorrow at lunch. Good luck.
"Baba Booey"
LOL, you're stuck in another decade.
3:46pm: I live downtown and a lot of places have closed. It's the nature of the business, but facts are facts: I liked a lot of these.
I love the design of the Roof building. Bethesda doesn't have much to offer in rooftop dining, so it was an amazing idea. Executed differently, it could succeed.
There aren't food trucks roaming downtown Bethesda like in DC or Arlington. (I'm no fan of Arlington..it's the most overrated suburb. Silver Spring, Bethesda and pike district are all better.)
If we're talking about Reimer, the question is did he ever get over losing the big televised debate to Dyer? He was in tears at the end and cancelled the remaining debates against Dyer. Then the Post withdrew their endorsement of Reimer due to his "thin resume" where his only accomplishment was "the nightlife economy".
LOL, Dyer's little toady is back.
"Thin resume" - yep, that's Dyer. Karen Carpenter-thin.
4:31: LOL, sounds like you lost the debate on the facts. Baba Booey.
6:20: Man, your bigotry knows no bounds. Now you're finding humor in anorexia? When your identity is revealed, you'll have a lot of explaining to do for all these comments you've posted. This is what supporters of Hans Riemer and George Leventhal really act like behind closed doors? Wow.
Meanwhile, to use your terms, I'm ROFL about the suggestion that Hans Riemer has a bigger resume than me in Montgomery County. I was active here politically when Riemer was still smoking in California. He just jumped off a U-Haul here, needs a GPS to get around the county, and doesn't even have a base of support. That's why he needs local media to prop him up with propaganda like the "Nighttime Economy," which - as proven by the facts - was a complete failure in downtown Bethesda.
Yet you've never been elected, and he has. Twice.
You seriously insult the intelligence of Montgomery County voters.
4:43: He's finished last among Democrats in both, winning on the basis of low-information voters who - thanks to the local media - had no idea he was funded bigtime by Wall Street bank lobbyists and pioneers in outsourcing American jobs to China, like Bain Capital and Mitch Rales. Few of those liberal and union voters would have voted for a fake progressive like Riemer if they were aware of that.
Dyer - "That's a stretch. I've never heard a restaurant closure blamed on the layout before."
Additional information on why Roof was terrible because of the layout (specifically the rooftop bar:
When you get upstairs(after taking the slowest elevator for 5 minutes)expect to wait another 5 minutes for a patron at one of the 5 bar seats open up or lean over so you can get a drink. Then get yourself a luke warm beer that costs $7-10 before tax & tip ($10-13 after) in a plastic glass(I forgive the plastic because it was for safety). If your lucky enough to get one of 5 bar seats then you can enjoy people reaching over you as you only stare at the wall since no TVs are view-able from these seats. All considered it was an uninviting concrete slab with a catering bar that just so happened to be 25ft off the ground. The place was more or less designed for a corporate event not an everyday bar-goer. Especially at $10-13 a beer.
Dyer apparently "hasn't heard of" a lot of things, like "not being a lunatic all of the time."
I wonder how much business Smashburger got at the expense of confused potential Roof customers.
I wonder how much their armpit of a ventilator scared away potential Roof customers, as well.
"He's finished last among Democrats in both"
Yet he finished ahead of you.
Dyer, please post your CV to the site and we will no longer speculate on your "accomplishments".
6:20: Only because the voters and unions didn't know Hans Riemer's top sugar daddies were Mitt Romney and Mitch Rales, two pioneers in outsourcing American jobs to China. You must be proud of your work for Hans, he's a true patriot selling out American to the Commies in China.
7:30: Please post your real name, and "we" (you've been hanging around Hans so long, you've picked up the royal "we") will no longer speculate as to your true identity (although you've narrowed the possibilities down considerably).
5:57: You mean there are times when you're not one?
Keep insulting the voters of Montgomery County, then whine that they don't vote for you.
Dyer's rants are such a hilarious, incoherent mishmash of Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street talking points.
8:30: Who's insulting the voters? They didn't have the information on Hans because the media covered it up.
8:32: Kind of like Hans Riemer's, come to think of it. "Pass Obamacare without the public option." - Hans Riemer on Twitter in 2009. "Consumers crushed by high Obamacare premiums, deductibles" - Media reports, 2015. I hear Hans has the inside track on a plum job in a Romney White House. Too bad Romney has no chance of winning, Hans. Hans wouldn't be very popular at an Occupy Wall Street rally, once they found out he takes money from Bain Capital and Mitch Rales, two pioneers in outsourcing American jobs to China. And his lobbyist donors are trying to repeal Dodd-Frank. Incoherent mishmash, indeed!
Dyer, you almost make Ted Cruz sound normal. ALMOST.
So explain to us again why you ran as a Republican?
I'm not sure how anonymous @ 7:30 narrowed down the possibilities with that one comment....
Notice how the person standing in front of Smoke casts no shadow?
She must be one of Dyer's fellow vampires.
10:06: So, which of Cruz's positions are you endorsing with this statement?
10:26: Why did Hans Riemer run as a Democrat?
1:20: Says the guy hunched over a computer keyboard day and night typing troll comments in the voice of a 10-year-old.
8:32am: tea party? Lol. Do you even know Dyer's positions? They're nothing in common with tea party.
Flynn, he narrowed it in previous comments in which he identified himself as being in the room at the Uber public hearing last month. There are 1-to-3 people posting all of these negative troll comments.
So you assume it's the same person? Assumption.
