BurgerFi to open at Pike & Rose

Burger lovers at Pike & Rose have largely had to rely on upscale restaurants like Del Frisco's Grille and City Perch at the Federal Realty property. Now a fast casual option is on the horizon. BurgerFi, a modern and eco-friendly burger chain, has leased a spot at 11881 Grand Park Avenue.

Located next to bluemercury in the Canopy by Hilton hotel, BurgerFi will serve all-natural hamburgers, Vienna beef dogs, and veggie and vegan burgers. Their 100% natural Angus beef patties have no steroids, antibiotics or growth hormones.

Burger Fi's menu also includes fresh, hand-cut fries, double-battered crispy onion rings, craft beer, wine, natural sugar cane sodas, and frozen custards and shakes. The restaurant is currently scheduled to open this winter.

“We are extremely excited to become a new member of the Pike & Rose community, a thriving new destination to live, work, shop and dine," the Pike & Rose BurgerFi location's owner Maria Fabelo said in a statement yesterday. "We look forward to bringing our all-natural unique offerings to one of the fastest growing and cosmopolitan neighborhoods in the U.S."

Smashburger closes in Bethesda (Photos)

Two years after it became apparent that Smashburger was on the way out in Bethesda, the restaurant finally closed its doors yesterday. The restaurant space had been for lease for two years (I've even heard from potential tenants who had toured the space during that time), but the landlord had allowed Smashburger to stay until someone else signed a lease. Now that that has apparently happened, Smashburger was out.

I'm frankly puzzled as to why Smashburger was in trouble so shortly after moving in. The burger and fries were great there. As I've said before, my only issue was the lack of special menu items like Taco Bell and Burger King offer for a limited time each month.

CITY BURGER INSTALLS SIGN IN BETHESDA (PHOTOS)

We're getting closer to opening day at City Burger on May 14; the restaurant has installed its permanent sign on Wisconsin Avenue. Chef Michael Harr's entry into the DC-area burger wars is eagerly awaited in a town where one of the top burger joints, Kraze Burgers, recently closed its doors for good. Smashburger and BGR remain the top competitors within walking distance, but remember that Harr's Food, Wine & Co. is regularly being named one of the top 100 restaurants in the region.

SMASHBURGER ADDS OUTDOOR SEATING IN BETHESDA (PHOTOS)

New burger hotspot Smashburger has added a few sidewalk tables for outdoor dining, just as the monsoon moved out of the area. Given the limited seating, you may want to get over there early for lunch. Smashburger is located at the corner of Norfolk and Cordell Avenues, in Bethesda's Woodmont Triangle.
