DORMIFY KIOSK AT BETHESDA ROW GETS LOCAL COLLEGE STUDENTS READY TO MOVE IN (PHOTOS)

The Dormify pop-up kiosk that, well, popped-up this weekend on Woodmont Plaza at Bethesda Row, aims to fill a tiny part of the vacuum of one-stop college dorm shopping in Bethesda.

In most cities, getting ready to move into your college dorm means going to Bed Bath and Beyond, Target and/or Walmart. All 3 big box stores are currently in dorm season with promotions and sales. Two out of the three have stores not that far away in south Rockville.

But we're told that we're supposed to drive less. Yet county politicians and planners have stymied big box retailers from coming to Bethesda, even though many of them have smaller-scale, urban store designs elsewhere in the country.

So shopping for dorm living requires a creative approach in Bethesda. You could find many things at stores like Strosniders, Bruce Variety or Bradley Party & Variety, Staples, CVS, Urban Country, Radio Shack (Westbard Avenue), etc. And you can drive to Montgomery Mall, as well as to the aforementioned big box stores further out the Pike.

Dormify specializes in decor, and seems to skew more towards female students (#SororityGirlProblems, glittery pillows, etc.). The kiosk does provide an easy way to pick up some dorm room decorations while dining or shopping at Bethesda Row. It's definitely worth checking out if you're a female student getting ready for campus living next month. They also have a website with a larger selection at Dormify.com.

SNODREAM CLOSING IN BETHESDA, LAST DAY TODAY FEATURES BOGO DEAL

Taiwanese snow ice kiosk Snodream will close forever at 9:00 PM tonight at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda.

For its final day today, January 30, Snodream is offering a buy-one-get-one-free deal as a thank you to customers. The deal applies to sno ice, crepes and Dream Big-size desserts (Dream Big = 3 toppings, 1 syrup).

The Snodream kiosk itself is for sale, and includes a refrigerator for toppings.

Today may be your last chance to try 2 unique products Snodream serves.  What makes Taiwanese snow ice different from traditional Taiwanese or Hawaiian shaved ice?

Snow ice has the flavors frozen into the ice itself, which is shaved off ribbon-style.

The other unique product is Japanese crepes, which are thinner and crisper than French crepes.

Sno ice comes in flavors such as Snog, Harajuku, Taste of Taro, and - for Maryland alumni - Terp Time.

Snodream is the second dessert kiosk at Westfield Montgomery to go up for sale in the last year, although frozen yogurt chain Yogi Castle had a successful launch elsewhere in the mall during that period.

Snodream opens at 10:00 AM this morning.
