OK, let me get the good news out of the way first:
Every Tuesday in August, Bethesda Row will screen an outdoor movie at dusk on Bethesda Lane.
The theme this year is 80s Movies Under the Stars.
Now, the bad news:
Here are the movies Federal Realty has selected...
August 7: The Breakfast Club
August 14: Ghostbusters
August 21: Pretty in Pink
August 28: Dirty Dancing
Well, one out of four ain't bad!
Oh no, here comes the soapbox.
I have to say that not only is this lineup heavily targeted toward women only, but are curious selections when there are so many better movies to choose from.
I mean, if you're going to say this is an 80s filmfest, where are the masterworks (The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, E.T., Tron, Indiana Jones 1-3, Rambo: First Blood Part II, Rocky III+IV, Back to the Future I+II, Top Gun, Batman...I am just scratching the surface here!)?
Ghostbusters is the only true classic with mass appeal on this list.
If this lineup is your cup of tea, it will be an enjoyable evening under the stars.
But if you share my opinion that the movie lineup should be more inclusive, why not let Federal Realty know, by posting a comment on the Bethesda Row Facebook page?
