Developer Novo has requested a demolition permit from Montgomery County to raze the former Steamers building at 4820 Auburn Avenue. The permit requested would also apply to 4816 and 4828 Auburn Avenue, according to the application.

Novo has proposed a 110' condominium building with 58 condo units and 2800 SF of retail/restaurant space for the property.

The fact that developers can fill these expensive units is incredible.
Are the existing new buildings full? This is an affluent area but who are these people? Not young 20 somethings. Pretty soon the only parking will be in the county lot on Del Rey. Would be worth all this growth if decent restaurants opened to feed all these new residents. With crazy county and DLC, don't count on it.

The Lauren is more than half sold and those units are $1mln+.. so yes, I guess they can fill them.

Absorption rate in the area is really good I hear.

Yes! Another opportunity to #PriceDyerOuttaBethesda and #MakeBethesdaSafeAgain

@5:47

"This is an affluent area but who are these people?"

Empty-nesters selling their 8 figure homes in Chevy Chase, Bethesda, and Potomac. It's definitely great to see all this development in Bethesda, but I think the demographic it's attracting is much older than the county was hoping for, even in more eclectic neighborhoods like Woodmont Triangle. Millennials are mostly flocking to Silver Spring (or DC and Arlington) instead.

Cause the rent is too damn high. :)

Pacific rim imports here to service Dyer.

8:05 AM - Right. That demo certainly doesn't want sports bars and the like. Million dollar condos full and no end in sight for more coming. Unreal. This area will never be young again in terms of folks living close and enjoying all the shops, dining, etc. It is what it is I guess.
Restaurants better step up their game in the case of a slightly older population. They can certainly afford it. Most of what we have in the downtown district is crap. Better food options doesn't necessarily mean super expensive either. A blend would be nice.

If you want to attract millennials, it's jobs, jobs, jobs.

If their company is in Northern VA or DC, there's no reason to live in MoCo, particularly since everything is becoming very homogeneous. The same chains everywhere.

The depths of your Dyer obsession is truly frightening.

Yet you say the same thing over and over again yourself?

The anonymous nutty guy will never air his grievance with Dyer or Greenhill.

Robert Dyer said...

6:13: Nobody other than you and Dan Reed have "negative feelings" about Greemhill. What percentage of people know which developer owns the building their favorite store or restaurant? Moronic false statement.

Anonymous said...

4:43 what are your facts about Greenhill? And who are you to pass judgement ?

Dyer's comments about the council aren't rude and defamatory?

Anonymous said...

10:57AM I don't believe you're that dumb. You know that has nothing to do with 9:59AM's comments.
You are deflecting. You know 9:59 is correct.

Robert Dyer said...

10:57: You believe criticizing public officials for inept performance, failed policies, and corruption is "defamatory?" Maybe you would like North Korea better.

Robert Dyer said...

9:59: I believe and recognize your comment was sincere, and not a troll comment. I apologize for having to remove it as part of a cleanup of disparaging attacks made by actual trolls. Please feel free to continue to post legitimate comments, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

I don't know what you're referencing since Dyer deleted 9:59.

Hello 8:14AM It seems I disparaged the trolls who frequent here.

As Dyer noted, I was sincere. I called trolls out on their bad behavior and their reasons for it. I asked if they really considered what they were doing was "acceptable." I then asked them "Have you no self-esteem?"

The only "bad" thing said was "rat's ass"

I didn't repeat any of the vitriol of other posters. I didn't say anything against Dyer. I did say I pitied the poor business owners who get caught up in the troll stampede to dis Dyer.

I appreciate the nice explanation for why he deleted it. But, honey, there are WAY WAY WAY worse posts still standing.

You just lost one of your shills.

Love and bacon, the former 9:59

I expect this post to be deleted too, because it seems INTELLIGENT posts are just as bad as posting "poop."

Robert Dyer said...

12:31: Again, I apologize for having to delete your comment. It was only necessary because it referred to some of the false statements the troll had posted which I had to remove. There was no other issue, and I would personally have preferred to leave it up.

I hope you will continue to read and comment on the blog.

So if someone comments about an opinion you don't agree with, they both get censored?

Robert Dyer said...

6:38: No, it was simply that in making what was a correct argument against the troll, the comment listed some of the specific accusations made by the troll against a particular company, and I was trying to clean those accusations out of the comment section. I'm not sure why anyone would take offense, when I politely explained that the predicament I'm in with these comments required me to delete a legitimate comment along with the troll comments.

Anonymous said...

Is no one else allowed to make accusations then? Only you?

Anonymous said...

And only his accusations can be true. Everyone else is false.
