Quincy's opening tonight in Bethesda

Quincy's will officially open tonight at 5:00 PM at 4920 Del Ray Avenue. They'll be open until 2:00 AM. This is the third Quincy's location in Montgomery County; the other two are in North Bethesda and Gaithersburg.

On the menu, look for new items only available at this location, Quincy's favorites, and pizzas from their brick pizza oven. They've also got chili on the menu, for all of you Hard Timers who used to order a bowl from the Hard Times Cafe that previously occupied this space.

I see Kim Jong Robert turned the comments off on the update about the wax center? Why are comments turned off on all the blog posts involving Karr's crappy designs and Greenberg's soon-to-be vacant properties? What's Dyer's affiliation with these guys? He has no problem slandering the County Council but won't allow critique on the design and development in Bethesda? Want to know why Bethesda is "Moribund"? It's landlords like Greenhill driving the tenants away!

Oh is that why comments are selectively turned off? I didn't notice the pattern of only being Karr and Greenhill properties until you pointed it out. I wonder why Robert does that? Does he have a relationship with the two of them that he is protecting? Or maybe the comments are out of hand - but if that were the case the comments in every other post are out of hand too. So it makes us all very suspicious of Robert Dyer's motives as being shady and suspect.

A friend of mine went to Quincy's last night and said it was actually pretty filled with young people. Tommy Joes is pretty young too every time I have good. Sounds like a positive direction for Woodmont Triangle for the youth to be returning!

I'm glad they didn't spend too much money renovating Quincy's. Eventually it will be knocked down and assembled into a highrise, and doing a Karr / Greenhill type lipstick on a pig renovation delays and hinders the ability, raises the price tag for the developer and future tenants.

6:10: Nobody was "driven away" by landlords. The businesses were unable to profit due to the high taxes and costly new regulations placed on them since 2010 alone. Add in the failure of Hans Riemer's "nighttime economy" initiative, and it's no wonder bars couldn't pay their rents. Landlords don't lock out and evict tenants who pay their rent. The Karr -Greenhill project has done just the opposite of what you claim: it has leased up before construction is even finished. Sounds like a success by any measure. The same can't be said for Riemer and the County Council - even his former chief of staff and the Washington Post agree with my assessment of Montgomery County's moribund private sector economy.

Wasn't the Karr-Greenhill project was vacant for several years before it leased to bold bites and the waxing salon? I think you highlighted the Blackfinn closing as one of failures of the nighttime economy task force.

While I don't care for the ugly Karr Grenhill renovations, I do commend the idea of opening up retail frontage on the long Norfolk block that had nothing before since the Blackfinn and Hanaro doors were on opposite corners. Shame it's a waxing center. But it's better than Greenhillvacant.

blackfinns location was the worst performer in their chain.The food was mediocre, the space was both inefficient, snd too big. Sales cratered before the construction and the construction made things worse, as they stopped paying rent and skipped out

6:59: In fact, I have no clue at this point what all these "vacancies" are - every space I can think of under that ownership has leased up, or is under construction for imminent lease, in the case of the Lot 667 remaining spaces. You'll have to find a new talking point.

7:06: I agree construction sidewalk closures didn't help, but the place was packed through the end. Always a line during the summer. I don't think a lack of customers was the problem. So you have to look at what the impact of County Council votes were on the razor-thin margins of profit bars and restaurants have. For many, it was simply too much, and they had to close. Couldn't pay the bills because they had to pay the County Council instead. The energy tax alone wiped out a ton of businesses before Hans even got started.

Can we please stop blaming everything on Hans Riemer and get real? You don't like the Council. Fine. Please stop holding a grudge and move on. I cannot believe some of the claims on this site. Nearly every single bad thing to happen in Bethesda is blamed on Hans Riemer. There are many local issues to discuss, both positive and negative, and not all of them can be attributed to a single person, but all we hear about is Hans Riemer in nearly every single story.

I too am curious why the comments are closed on the Greenhill Property. The author did not really explain above. I'm guessing it really is a clause in a contract the author has with the property owner?

To me, it's more in line with a Cease and Desist letter. Closing comments on their threads would comply.

Are you saying you're missing reading the same repeated insults? Lol.

If you're mad because you can't post or read insults on a news article, please get help asap. There's more to life than insults.

As for Reamer, he owns the nightlife issue on the Council. He says he fixed it.
So it's perfectly appropriate to hold him accountable.
I wish the legacy local media would occasionally hold elected officials accountable. Hard to do when you're best friends with the Councilmembers you're claiming to cover. :)

7:47: As the other commenter mentioned, Hans Riemer owns the nighttime economy disaster. He made it all about him in the massive press blitz in which he essentially cast himself as the saviour of nightlife. So when it bombed, guess who the face of it is? Yep, the guy who took all the credit. He is rightly singled out on all debacles that resulted from his various self-promoting media campaigns: nightlife, cybersecurity, food trucks, "getting government out of liquor business" - all complete disasters. Lesson: Don't move across country and use Wall Street money to win office before you've even unpacked the U-Haul.

There are several third party analytics sources available for site traffic. I don't have access to Dyer's own first party data.

The third party data shows how traffic is surging on Dyer's network.
EastMoCo traffic is skyrocketing this year; up massively every month.
This homeship site, Bethesda Row, has surged.
Rockville Nights is surging. All of these are ahead of other local site or blog.
Amazing how little credit he gets from the legacy media for filling the vacuum that The Gazette and Patch left in these neighborhoods.

You can love the county and still see the lack of leadership on the Council and things have declined.
Bethesda residents in particular are disappointed in how they took their eye off the ball.

I'm guessing Dyer got a cease & desist from Greenhill. As for Karr, either he got some kind of sponsorship, or Karr treated him better than most developers in terms of access to opening parties and so on.

1:40 PM It's understandable...if I intimated that I was thinking of proposing seceding from the state, I'd want to walk that back too. It was embarrassing and George was quietly told to drop the idea.

The county also floated seizing part of Twinbrook from the City of Rockville. Their mayor and council push back hard and MoCo had to walk that back too.

These are the kinds of birdbrain ideas our current leaders propose.

You mean like when Councilmember Reamer claimed there are two Metro stations walkable from Westbard Avenue? We're dealing with dishonest politicians here.

It's fact that a MoCo official expressed the desire to bring part of Twinbrook into White Flint. It was regrettable by Ken, but it happened.

AND... Leventhal had one ofhis tantrums after Hogan seized power. He wanted out of Maryland. Said the bug counties didn't need the rural areas. Regrettable!
