New traffic signals, crosswalks, traffic pattern at Cordell and Wisconsin in Bethesda (Photos)

The Maryland State Highway Administration has activated new traffic signals, new crosswalks and a new traffic pattern at the intersection of Cordell Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue (MD 355) in downtown Bethesda. Eastbound drivers on Cordell can now turn left onto northbound Wisconsin from two lanes on Cordell.

New crosswalks and signal patterns are designed to help pedestrians cross more safely. I got some photos just before SHA removed the coverings on the new control boxes at the intersection, and you can see the double poles for the old and new signals.

Two of these photos are repeats from Sunday's article, and the other two were clearly taken on the same occasion - sometime late Saturday afternoon.
