Bethesda construction update: Marriott International HQ and hotel (Photos)

The Marriott International world headquarters - relocating down MD 355 from the Democracy Boulevard corridor to the center of downtown Bethesda - and accompanying hotel are beginning to round into shape at 7750 Wisconsin Avenue. Walls of installed glass panels are now reflecting light and images of neighboring structures.

All concrete work on the project is now complete, Marriott's development partners report. Roofing and remaining steelwork will continue this month. The partners anticipate that the facade work should reach the roof by the end of the month. Three of the twenty-two elevators inside the two buildings are now fully completed.

And in related news, the diner may never reopen. No one has a crystal ball, but man, Gene could've been relaxing on a lounge chair in FL had he sold when Marriott came knocking.

5:54pm if I recall, part of the problem was Woodmont Grill not wanting to sell also.

Maybe Woodmont will do good business from Marriott execs and hotel guests?

As for the diner, why not remain open for take out and delivery?

9:59 - Woodmont Grill would buy the diner site and reconfigure their restaurant. They would kill to have that corner. I was told that from a reliable source. They are foolish to not serve anything during this ridiculous shutdown of restaurants.
