National Guard troops spotted in Bethesda ahead of inauguration week

A large number of National Guard troops and their baggage were seen gathered outside the main entrance of the Hyatt Regency Bethesda hotel Monday evening. As many as 10,000-15,000 National Guard troops could be deployed to the Washington, D.C. area by next week's presidential inauguration ceremony. Many arrived yesterday in the region, including this contingent. This could provide a temporary shot in the arm for hotels in the area that have been struggling with vacancies over the last ten months.

At first, I read "struggling with vacancies" as "struggling with vaccines" LOL.

9:43: No photo. They had gone inside by the time I got back around to the front, but I've heard that there were even more than the ones out last night who had arrived earlier in the day.

Does anyone else know if such military presence has been deployed in advance of any other inauguration? I do not recall it and I'm a 'local'. I was also told (by a friend whose daughter works downtown) last night at least the entire Capitol Hill area was blocked off by police, as well as a long stretch of Constitution Ave.
