The new Lidl grocery store at 7625 Old Georgetown Road in downtown Bethesda has very quickly become a selling point for nearby apartment buildings. It's only natural that Bethesda Place, which stands atop the store at 7701 Woodmont Avenue, has added a picture of it to its website. But the Solaire 7607 Old Georgetown apartment tower right next door is also getting in on the action. A sign placed on the sidewalk in front of the building asks passersby to "imagine carrying your groceries this far home," and provides a QR code for the property's website.
Some rental buildings in close proximity to Lidl have some catching up to do. Element 28, two doors up from the store on Old Georgetown, is still only listing the new Trader Joe's store in the 8001 Woodmont apartments. The Metropolitan, right across Old Georgetown from Lidl, doesn't mention the new store on its website yet, either.

Open season on retailers when the PL comes in.
I am impressed with how many Bethesdans seem to be flocking to this new Lidl. I have already seen changes (as far as store setup and customer service) in Harris Teeter up the street to signal they may be worried about losing some business………
The success Lidl has had so far in Bethesda is interesting. The original Pre-Opening Predictions went the other way !
Being in a most convenient location for commuters is in there favor. Even TJ's is quiet a trek away for people on foot.
8:40am yes, I've seen Giant talking up their low prices since Lidl opened. Of course, Giant has been price gouging the past few years unless a particular item happens to go on sale for a particular week.
Harris Teeter will need to step up their game and. Customer service.
Could you tell us what PL stands for, so we understand your comment ?
What has Harris Teeter done?
Are these the same hooligans that apparently now use the Metro, or buses, or steal a car and drive to Bethesda to do their crimes and might switch to the PL? What makes you assume the PL will increase crime? Do you think that they are unaware that all PL stations and trains will have extensive video surveillance with time stamps and locational tracking. Let’s steal some stuff, then hop on the PL and ride back to our evil lair. Perhaps some of the folks that live along the PL that you seem to fear will benefit with better access to affordable housing, better jobs, improved access to educational opportunities, and not chose a life of crime.
Oh so PL stands for Purple Line ! I get it now……..
2 things have changed at Harris Teeter since the day LIDL opened. First, the food items are now perfectly arranged in each aisle, not just when District managers come in, but every day ! Secondly, the cashiers are asking every cust if they need assistance getting groceries out to their cars.
Again, these things mysteriously started the week LIDL opened. It tells me that they are already worried they may lose some business……not a lot, but some.
LIDL has a Secret Weapon over Trader Joes. They have 40 to 50% named brand items. Trader Joes (and ALDI) have NONE !
So 4:40 is one of those liberals so triggered by what's actually happening in DC, of course there is zero comprehension abut the PL and what it means. Take the J2 to DTSS and walk down Wayne Ave all the way to Flower Ave then on to Arlyss, Piney Branch up to New Hampshire Ave. Do it after sunset and get even a clearer picture. Crime has been a problem in that area for 50 years and living/working there during college was eye opening. All the teenage thugs down there carry and wishing the PL won't encourage crime in Bethesda is just that.
I can't speak to Trader Joe's, but Aldi does carry some brand name items. Campbell's, Little Debbie, and La Croix come immediately to mind.
4:40 - SPOT ON! These morons that automatically connect crime with transit are way too obtuse to understand the term getaway. It just doesn't happen.
I guess we should just build a big wall or something to keep all those evil doers out of Bethesda. Let them figure out their own problems. Why should the good and righteous people of Bethesda care about anyone but themselves?
Access to transit is one of the best tools to improve the public realm and help folks get better access to good jobs, better healthcare and a better education. Even folks that work in Bethesda will have better access to more affordable housing, Rock Creek Park and the University of Maryland campus. Perhaps you don’t realize that Silver Spring has had rail access to Bethesda since the mid 1980’s and I don’t think the sky has fallen.
Great to shop at horrible to live above. They have trucks coming and going at all hours of the night delivering things.
