Daily occurrence in Greenwich Village, Battery Park and Edgemoor. Our catch people looking and checking car doors several time a week between 2-4am. Can't wait for the Purple Line.
Just a quibble, but I think Wapakoneta is in Glen Echo Heights not Mohican Hills.
Just thinking that, as the year draws to a close, Bethesda seems still to be a relatively safe community. Yes, since January, this blog has reported a number of crimes, some of violence; and, of course, even a little crime is too much crime; but on the whole I think we have a lot to be thankful for. Including the MoCoPD, whom I don't think always get the respect they deserve.
6:46, rhetorically, what do we do to maintain this relatively lower crime status? Are we doing it or are we just slowly sliding down into the PGC/DC crime quagmire? Is becoming more like SS predestined? Will "North Bethesda" become the new 'go to' place?
This is obviously just kids doing what they do, keep your doors locked and no problem.
Yes, I can't wait for the Purple Line as well! It will increase transit opportunities to access jobs, educational opportunities and more affordable housing. Countless studies have proven that adding transit does not increase crime, but improves opportunities for those who can't afford a car, or are unwilling or unable to drive. Idiots that leave their cars unlocked deserve to be burgled.
Here comes 9:27, Elrich's uninformed mouthpiece, who can't factually justify the PL except to read off light-rail talking points that have never come to fruition in ANY project in this country. Where will you be when this 10-BILLION dollar fails to meet ridership and crime spikes? No where to be found as liberals never take responsibility for anything they do.
@9:27 AM What studies? Who funded them?
"Access Jobs, Educational Opportunities and Affordable Housing?"
What have you been drinking?
I have previously posted several links to multiple studies that clearly indicate that adding transit does not increase crime. In fact it has a net benefit to improve the community. Yes it’s terribly expensive, messy, disruptive and takes way too long to build, but worth the effort. Of course Nimbies will never accept these studies as valid.
OR put the "kids" in juvie where Bubba will teach them a lesson they won't soon forget.
What do you mean becoming more like SS? It has already become :

814 can bloviate about doctored studies when actual data shows the opposite. How about being a good steward of taxpayer dollars but that is a bridge too far for your council masters. Did your crime stats change when you stopped prosecuting shoplifters? The answer is yes because democrats reclassified crimes so the stats would fit their narrative. The outgoing DC police chief just got caught because DC is a federal city but the progressive autonomy in MD protects the corrupt.
This council is so dishonest regarding lane diets, crime and transit, anyone with a conscience couldn't sleep at night but I'll bet you sleep just fine
Somehow I believe that most of you who oppose the Purple Line have rarely if ever ridden on the Metro, taken a Metro Bus, ridden on MARC or VRE, ridden on the Bethesda Circulator, rented a Capital Bikeshare, utilized an Uber or Lyft or ZipCar. I suspect you are most comfortable in your private car, driving between your home garage and your secure work garage, mostly utilizing drive through restaurants, banks and pharmacies to avoid any contact with just about anyone else. Please tell me I am wrong. Yes the PL will mean folks can soon work in Bethesda and live in a cheaper area, easily commute to UMD. Folks around the region will have vastly better access to good paying jobs in Bethesda and along the Red Line without a long trip to DC and back. It really is that simple.
More like the State of Maryland will someday just be a big Prince George's County! Look what we have to look forward to! Moore and Alsobrooks are doing their level best to help us out.
@5:43 You are so wrong as the lack of basic understanding while ignoring actual data and demographics is exactly what this council does. Let's spend 10 billion dollars for a rail project that will actually serve very few and could have been accomplished with a couple of extra J2 busses. But no, liberals love a light-rail vanity project touting glorified benefits that never come true but ignore past failures because "it will work this time". Another truly pathetic social engineering project that only exists to serve your tax spending ego.
Having just read what 5:43 posted, I can only say that the us vs them mantra in that paragraph ending with "tell me I'm wrong" is a display of what the minority thinks of the majority in this county. Having commuted into Bethesda on the J2 before moving here really begs the question of spending so much as it was only crowded during rush hours while the rest of the time the busses were much less that half capacity. The Purple Line is billions of dollars that has essentially been set on fire to the detriment of the working class that will need to pay the bill.
If you don't belive 11:56, just look at Downtown Silver Spring. Let's hope it's not the future of Bethesda. But it's sure looking that way.
DTSS is virtually a no go zone after dark despite spending hundreds of millions on fancy infrastructure like the library. Criminals have wrecked nightlife there and the new PL will do the same to Bethesda because those in charge have no desire to enforce laws already on the books.
@ 1:33 AM (!) It's really strange and sad that you see prison rape as not only humorous, but somehow rehabilitative for young offenders.
@ 4:49 AM and 1:07 PM - The J2's eastern terminus is Silver Spring. The Purple Line goes all the way to New Carrollton. Between Bethesda and Silver Spring the Purple Line is completely separate from the local roadways, not only more efficient for its users, but removing all those buses from East-West Highway.
"The J2... was only crowded during rush hours" The J2 is not just crowded during rush hours, it is EXTREMELY crowded during rush hours. To the point where buses are completely full and cannot stop for additional passengers. And the buses are mostly full in the midday. You know what is also "only crowded during rush hours"? The Beltway. I-270. The American Legion Bridge. Let's not expand those, either.
Everything else about "Bethesda is becoming Downtown Silver Spring", "DTSS is virtually a no go zone after dark", "Maryland will someday just be a big Prince George's County" and "transit increases crime wherever it is built" is just racist gibberish.
@1:47 I see that reading isn't fundamental and comprehension is scarce at best. Busses are on wheels and not limited to where tracks are laid so "adding a couple of J2 busses" absolutely solves both problems. Just isn't that fancy extraordinary expensive dinner that taxpayers foot the bill for.
Why not take a walk down Fenton street towards the 7-11 after the sun goes down? Or better yet past the apartments on Wayne Avenue or Piney Branch? Personal experience isn't racist but that's what the left does when they have no argument. It is exactly what we expect from an overpaid council lackey that has never lived by the policies they legislate.
1:47 Has probably never ridden the J2 on a regular basis like I did for over 10 years and the use of "EXTREMELY" is a complete exaggeration. Having lived on Flower Ave near Piney Branch for almost 6 years, racist is what I would describe as democrats handing out taxpayer dollars to keep segments of the population hooked on the drug of entitlements for votes. Take a look in the mirror once in a while, it's not pretty and I'm not referring to looks - just to clarify to those with limited understanding.
