Honest Tea founder to return with Just Ice Tea

Seth Goldman
, Bethesda resident and founder of Honest Tea, has hinted at a comeback, after Coca-Cola acquired but recently dropped it from its product line. This morning, Goldman revealed that his new beverage brand will be called Just Ice Tea. He said he will once again ground the new brand in the principles on which he founded Honest Tea: Fair Trade certification, reinvesting in workers' communities, and avoiding synthetic pesticides, herbicides, insecticides and fertilizers.

Minimal ingredients and sweeteners will be employed in the new flavors. Goldman tweeted that the new line of teas will appear on store shelves "in a few months." Montgomery County residents are looking forward to again seeing a local Bethesda address on their tea bottles before year's end.

Honest Tea to debut immersive vending machine today at Bethesda Row

Honest Tea, located at 4827 Bethesda Avenue, will introduce a new charitable and immersive vending machine today outside their headquarters. Users of the vending machine will learn about the positive impact their Honest Tea purchase will have. Honest Tea's partners Fair Trade USA™ and Organic Farming Research Foundation will also be highlighted.

Honest Tea celebrates 20 years in Bethesda (Photos)

It may not seem like it, but Honest Tea has been around for two decades as of this month. The 4827 Bethesda Avenue-based company is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and despite hitting the big time via a partnership with Coca-Cola, people all over the world still see their Bethesda address on each bottle. Honest Tea was launched in co-founder and "TeaEO" Seth Goldman's house on February 2, 1998, less than one mile from their corporate office.

BETHESDA BIG TRAIN CELEBRITY SOFTBALL CLASSIC TICKETS ON SALE

Baseball season is nearly here, but it's time to make plans for a visit to Bethesda's own baseball park, Shirley Povich Field, for the Bethesda Big Train FanFest and Celebrity Softball Classic on April 12. The game will start at 7:00 PM, but come early for FanFest at 5:30 PM, for family-friendly rides, games, giveaways and a Redskins-themed auction. There'll also be free food for the first 500 people.

The media team has the most household names of local celebrities, including Chris Cooley, Fred Smoot, Chick Hernandez, Mike Wise, Julie Donaldson, Lindsay Murphy, Kristen Berset, Dianna Russini and DJ Chris Styles.

On the athlete roster, you'll find the Washington Redskins well-represented, including Ryan Kerrigan, Kai Forbath, Nick Sundberg, Perry Riley, Niles Paul, Kedrick Golston and Chris Wilson. Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris of the Washington Spirit soccer team, and University of Maryland favorite Byron Mouton will round out the athlete squad.

Proceeds from the game will benefit Arizona Cardinal Lorenzo Alexander's ACES Foundation, The Brave Dave Open, and the Washington Redskins Alumni Association. Game sponsors include adidas, Buffalo Wild Wings, Giant Food, and two hometown Bethesda companies: Miller & Long and Honest Tea.

Tickets are available now online, and what a great way to help several causes, while making a downpayment on warmer weather! You can get an idea of what the event will be like by watching the video below (the audio is silent due to YouTube muting it, so don't adjust your volume).

BETHESDA URBAN PARTNERSHIP, HONEST TEA DELIVER BIKE RACK TO WHOLE FOODS BETHESDA

Cyclists have one more reason to hit the Capital Crescent Trail out of downtown Bethesda today.  Bethesda's own Honest Tea built a bike storage rack made out of 15,000 Honest Kids juice pouches, and donated it to Whole Foods on River Road yesterday.  Assisting in this effort was Bethesda Urban Partnership.
Whole Foods Bethesda
Now you can take the CCT over to River Road, lock your bike at Whole Foods, and take advantage of what's in the Westbard area.  Obviously, shopping at Whole Foods is one!  You also have Ledo's Pizza, which is one of the few chains that has an original pizza recipe, rather than just a knock-off of Pizza Hut or Dominos.  How about a sandwich at Georgetown Bagelry?  The only McDonald's left in Bethesda is diagonally across the street.  At Westwood Center II, get a steak sandwich at West River Deli, or sushi at Yirasai.  Then bowl a few frames at Bowlmor Lanes.

Not bad for a zero-environmental impact Saturday afternoon.
