Bethesda Row boarding up for looting

Bethesda Row businesses are beginning to board up their windows in expectation of potential looting. Nearby Friendship Heights in Chevy Chase was hit by looters Sunday. Late Sunday night, about 75 looters smashed windows and took merchandise on the D.C. side of the line in Chevy Chase, including Rodman's, CVS Pharmacy, and the new Tenleytown Target.

These two Bethesda businesses are now not taking any chances. CityCenterDC, another high-end retail center, and Georgetown were among the other upscale shopping areas already raided by looters in the District. Flyers about protests have already been placed on some of the boards.

bluemercury closed through Wednesday for renovations at Bethesda Row

You may recall my recent report that bluemercury is getting a makeover at Bethesda Row. Most of the work is being done while the store remains open for business. However, some more complicated work at this phase has required a temporary shutdown through tomorrow, Wednesday, March 14, 2018. They will reopen Thursday morning at 11:00 AM.

Renovations ahead for Bluemercury at Bethesda Row

Major renovations are planned for the Bluemercury store at 7105 Bethesda Lane at Bethesda Row. Now owned by retail giant Macy's, the boutique chain is a leading seller of high-end cosmetics known for having in-store service on a par with Apple.

The work will include new flooring, interior finishes and other cosmetic changes (pun intended). But it will also overhaul major electrical and HVAC systems, and create a new layout for the 2164 SF space. $150,000 is the price tag for the whole project.

Bluemercury's founders, Marla Malcolm Beck and Barry Beck, are Bethesda residents.
