PARTY LIKE IT'S 2019 AT WESTBARD GIANT FALL FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND IN BETHESDA

FREE FOOD
AND
PRIZES

Another Robert Dyer @ Bethesda Row Exclusive

Only about 48 hours ago did we hear that Equity One had purchased the Westwood Complex on Westbard Avenue in Bethesda.  The crown jewel of that property is the Westwood Shopping Center, home to the Westbard Giant since 1959.

The transaction process revealed that the Giant's lease expires in 2019 (they renegotiated the old one that expired in 2058).  At that time, Giant may be gone forever, and the shopping center may be torn down.

But for now...

The Giant continues to celebrate its recent Grand Reopening, and is holding a Fall Festival inside the store this weekend.

So get ready to party like it's 2019 Saturday and Sunday, noon-4 PM.

Enjoy FREE apples, apple pie, kettle corn and pumpkin muffins!

Make your own caramel apple!

Spin the Prize Wheel!

Crafts and games!

With 7 years left, let's make the most of it while we can.

Giant, 5400 Westbard Avenue, Bethesda.

The best Giant in Bethesda may be extinct in a few years?

If the developers have their way, it might be. If the county refuses to build skyscrapers in downtown Bethesda, then they have no credibility trying to turn Westbard into an urban area. Total hypocrisy.

Well, hopefully they will bring in a better grocery store with faster lines and proper customer service. In addition to good produce and a better selection. Something like Wegmans would serve the community better. I also prefer a company that did not allow employees to smoke out front and spit and curse as children and patrons walk by. The Giant is an eyesore and one of the worst grocery stores I have ever been in. I am happy to see it go and something much better take Giants place. Horray for real change.

3:37 I like Wegman's, too. That would be a step up from Giant. I just wouldn't want to go backwards with a lesser chain than Giant. The Westbard Giant is the best Giant in the area in my opinion. Their selection in many respects is now better than Target, which seems to be in decline in its grocery department. If you compare the cookie/cracker and chip aisles of Giant and Safeway, for example, there is far greater selection at the Westbard Giant.

I would be sorry to see the current store torn down, as I've been going there my whole life. If the developer plays grocery store roulette, be careful what you wish for - it could end up being less selection than Giant.
