BRUCE VARIETY OPENS AT NEW LOCATION IN BETHESDA (PHOTOS) - 8011 WOODMONT AVENUE

Bruce Variety has reopened in Bethesda at its new location, 8011 Woodmont Avenue.

A friendly employee was welcoming each customer entering the store yesterday. There is convenient parking alongside the store, and you can park for free on weekends, according to the posted sign.

Much of the familiar Bruce Variety products are back in stock, including thread, craft supplies and, yes, Mad Libs books.

The store has more open space, and brighter lighting than the old location, even though the cramped aisles and dim lighting were part of the original's charm. Overall, it is much easier to get around this store during more crowded times than the old one.

Enjoy a virtual tour of the new store below. It is also a virtual online catalog, as you can click to zoom in on each photo to see all of the individual products.

The Captain 20 Dick Dyszel pirate stole the show. Now that's classic Bethesda for you.

Who took those wonderful photographs of the interior of the new Bruce Variety store? I am an amateur photographer and I want to take some like that as well. Can I get permission to go in and shoot?

Very happy news! Great new location -- good for the store, and good for that neighborhood.

Bruse Variety is a joy. I am going now to pick up tapestry needles. I will surely find some surprises for my 3 grandchildren: all under 2. I am thankful for the creative and perseverent spirit of the owners. Bethesda is better with Bruce's.

See what I found today in a HALF HOUR:

A huge needlepoint / tapestry hoop (over a foot and a half in diameter)

A very thin cloth used in ironing to protect fabric from texture changes under heat

Two sock monkeyl key chains

3/4 inch adhesive felt pads (protects surfaces from scratches)

no.18 and no. 20 tapestry needles

A bib for babies--non absorbent fabric--excellent for use in travel

While I was there someone came in and needed an inexpensive compass. He had three to choose from--all under 3 dollar

All this happened on a Sunday afternoon around 3:30. Where else but at Bruce's !!!
