Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza construction permit

So much pizza news around downtown Bethesda this morning: Now we turn from a popular established pizzeria to a new national chain entry, Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza, coming soon to 7776 Norfolk Avenue. So far, they've been demolishing the old Community diner in there. Now they've filed for a construction permit.

Notably, the $420,000 makeover of the space will include a new outdoor patio. Everything hot served in the 3017 SF restaurant will be prepared in their coal-fired oven, which many pizza fanatics are looking forward to seeing in action. And football fans are wondering if Anthony's investor Dan Marino will make an appearance at the grand opening.

Why are you in Westfield reporting about Norfolk Ave? Coal fired pizza is very good. Never had any from this chain. Sounds like a lot of capital investment for a pizza joint though. They must expect a hell of a margin.

I can't imagine that the residents of 7770 Norfolk will be thrilled to have coal smoke. Expect this to meet the same fate as the McDonalds or Smashburger.

Why coal instead of wood for the pizza oven? Coal just seems like kind of 1800's and steam engines to me.

Dan Marino? Who in this area gives a flying flip? And no, there's no way he will appear at the grand opening of this restaurant.

5:12: Believe it or not, actual sports fans in the area do care. You're in no position to state if Mr. Marino will appear or not. He'll likely give you the bum's rush, if he does.

8:03 - you obviously don't know great pizza. A coal fired oven (in "everything is illegal" MoCo how is this allowed) cooks pizza very evenly and quickly at well over a 1000° F. That gives the crust a nice charred consistency and sears the flavor in with the sauce and toppings. Best pizza places in NYC are coal-fired.

5:42 - Actual sports fan in FL might. But sports fans in DC area could care less about him. And I'd bet you any amount of money that not only will he not be in Bethesda for this opening that he won't even be asked.

Dyer is the most transparent local journalist- photos, active on social, etc. Well known and established.

You wonders sometimes why other local journos are reluctant to engage on social media and don't have photos.

Another Pizza place to come in and fail (I hope I am wrong); this space is cursed after Community came in failed then followed by another failure "One Scotch, One Burger, One Beer". Awful site for a restaurant- congested corner with apartment tenants moving in and out, tight parking, high rent. Shocking Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza couldn't put those ingredients together.

Community space required a national tenant. With all the institutional apartment ownership and counting in the pipeline, the only true national tenant in the Triangle remains Starbucks.

I really thought a Sephora or high end type retailer would of been better suited than the millionth coal fired oven concept.
