Woman places herself on track at Bethesda Metro station - UPDATED

UPDATE - Tuesday, November 10, 2020, 2:20 PM: WMATA informs me that, contrary to Montgomery County officials' account of the incident, the woman intentionally placed herself on the track rather than falling accidentally from the platform. For complete details, please see my updated report and Metro's full statement here

Metro Red Line service was affected in both directions this morning after a passenger fell from the platform onto the tracks around 8:30 AM. A woman in her thirties fell as a train was arriving at the station, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Pete Piringer said. She rolled into an "area of refuge," Piringer said, and self-rescued with non-life-threatening injuries.

WMATA initially tweeted that she had been struck by the train. Trains single-tracked between Friendship Heights and Grosvenor after the incident.
