Bethesda under flood watch until 11:00 PM tonight as severe storms approach

Severe thunderstorms are expected to pass through the area this afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch that will remain in effect until 11:00 PM tonight for Montgomery County, Prince George's County and most of Maryland west of the Chesapeake Bay, Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia. Rainfall amounts of 2-4" are expected, in timeframes as little as one or two hours, leading to potential flash flooding. Isolated strong wind gusts are also expected.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) issued a statement this afternoon regarding the severe weather forecast. "More severe weather is expected to impact our state this afternoon and evening, including thunderstorms that could produce damaging wind gusts, heavy rainfall, and flash flooding," Hogan said. He urged residents to "please monitor local forecasts, exercise caution while traveling, and never drive through standing water."

Now is the time to charge your devices, and check the batteries in your flashlights. Bring objects that might fly away in from yards and balconies. Have a battery-powered radio to receive information in case of power outages. For Pepco customers, download the Pepco app to report power outages.

Robert, breaking news in case you have not heard. Bethesda Beat redesigned its website today and removed the Disqus commenting platform completely. I would strongly suggest you spruce your site up or even somehow adopt the Disqus platform. Either way, you are now the sole local news site that has reader comments. I'd say that's a big opportunity. Disqus is great especially because it already has all of our screen names, etc. It's plug and play commenting.Thank you!

Robert, I posted about BB removing the Disqus commenting forum from their site. I looked it up and that feature is able to be added to a Blogger site. I hope you consider it strongly. Thank you!

Robert, Ignore 242 and 341

A great idea! And anonymous posting is not allowed on Disqus, which really discourages trolls.

Do it Robert, DO ittttttt!

Commenting is a fraught affair for the host. It obviously caused a lot of angst for BB. I stopped my commenting and even reading of BB because they allowed people to insult me for my conservative viewpoints even though it violated their policies.

He will do no such thing and should not.

Robert, going to disqus would be a terrible idea, and is nothing more than another way to thwart free speech. Bolsheviks are not big fans of commenting in general, and free speech of any sort for that matter. While people like 6:34 will not openly say, "Robert, stop the comments", this is the first step towards free speech suppression.

I for one would be less inclined to read this blog, or any blog at all, that has controlled commenting, or no commenting. I don't go to WTOP or BM any more, because they stopped the comments when it was clear that people were speaking their minds, instead of agreeing with whatever was written.

"Trolls"! Ha. Anybody with a right of center viewpoint is a troll in the minds of the Bolsheviks.

10:21 - Yes, BB was terrible with that. Differing views were trounced upon.
