Z-Burger Bethesda update (Photos)

One of the few last missing pieces of the interior of the future Z-Burger restaurant at 4827 Fairmont Avenue in downtown Bethesda is going into place. Menu panels are being installed behind the counter, although a few empty frames indicate the job isn't done yet. The right side interior wall also features the names of menu items. There still isn't an official opening date, but stay tuned for the announcement, which can't be far off.

They may be fabulous --I hope they are-- but the idea of spending almost ten dollars for one patty of hamburger meat, or more than seven dollars for a hotdog, does not compute in my middle-aged brain. I know these guys aren't alone; I've seen the Five Guys menu prices, too. But this sort of food will always and forever bring to my mind the old, (1972 is *really* old, I know,) McDonalds commercial, which said, "Feed a family of four for under four dollars." It implies the seventies family was getting drinks, fries, and assorted sandwiches for less than a dollar a head. (see the ad here, on YouTube -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErlAEWG7xE0) The Bureau of Labor Statistics "CPI Inflation Calculator" says one dollar in September 1972 should be $7.31 in Sept 2023. The menu pictured at Z-Burger shows a small drink $2.99; a small fries $4.99; a small cheeseburger $9.39, totaling $17.37, more than 130% more than an inflation-adjusted bill would run versus that '72 McD's ad.

But who am I kidding? I'm salivating to try this joint when they open. Their press has me intrigued and ravenous.

This isn't a plus but a minus. Z Burger is very sub par and below Five Guys by yards and below Shake Shack by miles. BGR was great initially but faltered. You know what's good and used to be in Bethesda Row, Foster's. Anyone here who remembers or knows them from Vienna location will agree. They should come back to this side of the river.

Just wait until liberals here follow California's lead.

Someone at the retirement center needs to take computer privileges away from the grouchy residents. Next you curmudgeons will tell us how far you walked to school in a blizzard and wore no shoes. 1972 prices are long gone dudes get real. Here's a new field trip for you, have lunch at Jetties.

Not a long way to go to Jetties. Fortunately, it's right next door to Z Burger. BTW Jetties NoBadeer... Thanksgiving on a sandwich all year long :) And a much deserved shout out to the lesser known Habit Burger: Tasty burgers. Still reasonably priced. Service with a smile. Can't wait till they bring back their patty melt served on rye bread. Patty melt perfection!
