Norfolk Ave. Starbucks temporarily reduces hours in Bethesda

The Starbucks store at 7700 Norfolk Avenue in downtown Bethesda is temporarily reducing its hours of operation. No reason is given for the schedule change, but staffing has been an issue for Starbucks as a chain - and at this location in particular - in recent years. The new, temporary operating hours are 5:30 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday.

Two decades ago Starbucks was a cool “third place”. Now it’s just a place for overpriced burnt “coffee” drowned in milk, from underpaid and indifferent staff, where people nervously and dejectedly stare into their phones while avoiding the “residents”. It has all the charm of a CVS or a 7-11 anymore. Late-stage capitalism on display.

They were supposed to renovate this month but were stalled by their landlord failing to secure a permit in time leading to some of their staffing issues as they had not planned on being opened this month. No word on when renovations will start, but the store should only be closed for roughly 2 months

As a coffee snob, I approve this message. Best summation of the local coffee situation ever.

Did their union fight for this?

The Norfolk Avenue Starbucks is not unionized, nor are any of the others in Bethesda.

But at least you tried.
