Signage installed at More Than Java Cafe in Bethesda

Signage has been stenciled on the front windows of More Than Java Cafe, which will be located in the ground floor of the Brightview Bethesda assisted-living apartment building at 4907 Rugby Avenue. The building itself was scheduled to welcome its first residents over the past week.

This will be More Than Java Cafe's second Bethesda location, with the first already open at 10411 Motor City Drive, near Home Depot and Montgomery Mall. As the name implies, it is more than a coffee shop, featuring a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items and baked goods.

Bethesda construction update: Ourisman Honda/CCT plaza (Photos)

Work continues on the small plaza being added alongside the Capital Crescent Trail where it meets Bethesda Avenue by Ourisman Honda. The plaza is being created by the dealership as part of a settlement with Montgomery County, after Ourisman built a garage addition in several public rights-of-way, including that of the CCT. Despite the trade-off, the garage and wall would still block a secretly-planned westward extension of the Purple Line to Westbard and Sumner Place.

Installation of the glass panels at JBG Smith's 7900 Wisconsin Avenue project in downtown Bethesda is now underway. The first windows have been installed on the lower floors.

Heckman's Deli to host High Holidays menu tasting September 9 in Bethesda

Heckman's-Caddies Catering will host a High Holidays complimentary tasting at Caddies on Cordell at 4922 Cordell Avenue on September 9, 2019 at 6:30 PM. The tasting is free, but you must RSVP to lisa@heckmanscaddiescatering.com to attend. Corned beef, brisket, whitefish, and noodle kugel will be among the selections from the Heckman's Deli menu for the High Holidays.

2 pedestrians struck on Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda

Two pedestrians were struck in the northbound lanes of Wisconsin Avenue by the Bethesda Theatre (Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club) last evening around 5:40 PM. Both adult trauma patients were transported to local hospitals, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Pete Piringer. Montgomery County police have not yet issued a press release on the accident investigation or circumstances.

Let's take a look inside the new Neuhaus Chocolate boutique at 7123 Bethesda Lane at Bethesda Row. In addition to the Belgian chocolate items, they also have cookies and biscuits. Smurfs collectors will not only want to buy the limited-edition Smurf candy items, but I was surprised to see they also have stuffed Smurf toys with "Neuhaus" hats on, making them real collector's items for the completist.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams "scooping soon" at Bethesda Row (Photos)

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams has put some "Coming Soon" window screens in their future Bethesda Row location on Elm Street next to the downsized Mamma Lucia. In Jeni's parlance, the company promises to be "scooping soon" in Bethesda.

The shop is also hiring for all positions, for those seeking post-summer employment. This is going to be a blockbuster showdown with Haagen Dazs and Dolcezza to see who is Top Scoop this fall.
