These guys just don't know when to quit!
A burglary rampage that ignited May 4 on Westbard Avenue in Bethesda, and spread east to Green Acres and west to Wilson Lane, struck again Sunday, May 13.
According to SpotCrime, a breaking-and-entering burglary occurred in the 6500 block of Wilson Lane Sunday.
This was the 11th such burglary between Wilson Lane and Western Avenue in only 9 days. Yet, I can find no public announcement from the county government or police. SpotCrime's CEO told me that their reports are taken directly from a county police feed.
I have been monitoring SpotCrime data since the Park Bethesda armed robbery in January, and have not seen a streak of burglaries like this during that time. It's also notable that, contrary to what you might expect, no such burglaries are recorded in the same database for Northwest DC during the same May 4-13 period.
I'm not sure what it takes to declare a crime wave, but unless someone can explain all 21 crimes during this period, it sure fits my definition of one. 11 burglaries in 9 days. 2 cars stolen in 24 hours. 21 burglaries and thefts within a small area in 9 days.
And the burglars are quite predictable, going back and hitting several streets a second time. You'd think it wouldn't be that hard to round them up, either a gang, or just one really energetic burglar!
