More "signs" construction of Artena Bethesda is about to begin

More "signs' that construction of the long-delayed Artena Bethesda development is about to begin have appeared at the rear of the 8000 Wisconsin Avenue property, on Woodmont Avenue. After demolition permit requests appeared on the Saphire Cafe building, and the public parking lot on Woodmont Avenue closed to the public, now a couple of Clark Construction signs have been erected inside the fencing around the parking lot. The Aksoylu Properties development has been in the works since at least 2017.

I see that 7126 Wisconsin (across the street from the Farm Women's Market) is finally submitting for site plan approval, so perhaps that caper is moving forward as well.

Saphire was a nice dive bar with plenty of parking. Folks would call out when parking enforcement came to visit. Shanel, you better pay for an extra hour. Dogs at the Tiki Bar licking up the spilt beer. Sorry to see it go, but this looks better by the sketches that I've seen. Progress is good.

This is big news because they went thru a long process of trying to secure funding and had the project in the planning stages for 5 years going all the way thru Covid. Of course, they have a whole block of Demolition Work to do First now that they finally seem to be proceeding……….My guess is they will go ahead with the Demolition for BOTH Properties on the site even though Artena will only occupy just over half of the vacant lot there.

7340 Wisconsin also applied for building permits so that should break ground by next spring.
