7-Eleven cleared out at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda (Photos)

7-Eleven
closed in the Dining Terrace food court at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda at the end of last month, as I reported January 30. Inventory was mostly cleaned off of shelves by February 7, but a lot of equipment and displays remained inside the darkened space. Now it has been cleared out and sealed off, in addition to the retractable metal barrier that could still be seen through last week. It's unclear why this location closed, as many have noted it was well-patronized during its short run at the mall, but the convenience store chain did close 184 stores nationwide last year.

7-11 is totally fine but in a mall? No. A nice sit-down restaurant, like Slades, which used to be at the mall years ago, would do so well on that level. Cheesecake Factory? Stinks.
Frank Pepe is the best pizza for miles. So, there are a few good spots but the food court area definitely struggles.

First CVS (over a decade ago). Now Popeye’s and 7-11. Next will be McDonalds.

1:46 - I remember the Peoples Drug at the mall fondly.

At least it wasn't cleared out by shoplifters.

I have never seen a 7-11 in a Mall anyways. So, no big loss.

@8:44 - Every time you bring up Slades you sound like a certain Joe I know. Give it a rest old man.

Thanks for bringing up slades I forgot all about that and I believe the three kings used to be on the top level and also the Marriott HotShop cafeteria. And the Woolworth on the ground level those were the days my friend.

10:37 - Indeed. When the mall also didn't suffer from assaults seemingly weekly.

JAC @ 2:31 - I’ll bet you remember Hot Shoppes and Woolworth's fondly, too.

4:49 - Yes, most definitely. And Spencer's among many others. I also remember people smoking everywhere and the tall, white ash tray bins placed throughout. Thank goodness that's never coming back.

JAC - Only five assaults in 2023, so not even monthly.

Cinco, first of all, I said seemingly. Secondly, how many assaults were there at the mall in recent years (so annually) compared to prior decades? The data can be found somewhere on that I bet. I'd also wager that the difference in crimes committed between recent years and let's say 80's thru the 2000's is stark.
