Montgomery County police officers responded to a report of a burglary at a vacant school building in Chevy Chase early Sunday evening, February 25, 2024. The break-in was reported at the vacant Rollingwood Elementary School at 3200 Woodbine Street at 7:15 PM Sunday. Officers arriving at the scene found evidence of forced entry at the school.
Neighbors have previously raised concerns about crime, vandalism and drug use taking place on this abandoned Montgomery County Public Schools campus. After MCPS closed Rollingwood in 1982, the building eventually became home to the private Rochambeau French International School until 2022, and the community awaits a decision on its future use.

Who actually owns it? Rochambeau sold it in '22? Sounds like an attractive nuisance / eye sore.
9:38: I believe MCPS still owns it, but leased it to Rochambeau. They do this with many former schools, so that they can reopen them if needed in the future.
And here we have all these NIMBYs complaining about development claiming it's causing school overcrowding and there's empty school building 2 miles from Bethesda. Those NIMBYs are the worst.
I wouldn't be surprised if people are found living in there.

'Crime, vandalism, and drug use' - in MoCo? Never read about that in the paper.
@7:29 - I am very familiar with the school boundary modification process as the B-CC cluster has seen a few over the last several years. Bethesda Elementary was just redistricted 2 years ago with a chunk of my neighborhood being moved to a school the same distance away as this one.
The completion of Silver Creek required a redistricting at the middle school level in 2017 and the new high school currently under construction will likely require some redistricting from B-CC.
It happens and while folks make a big deal about the it during the process everyone seems to be happy once it's complete.
Nature abhors vacuum.
