Super-bright lights installed at Kenwood Station in Bethesda

A spotlight is being shone on the parking lot at the Kenwood Station shopping center in Bethesda - literally. Ultra-bright light towers have just been installed around the lot of the shopping center, which is anchored by the popular Whole Foods Market grocery store. Photos can't do the intensity level of the lights justice, which may shine into windows of the adjacent homes in Kenwood.

Like many retail properties, Kenwood Station is responding to the increase in crime in Montgomery County, seeking to improve safety and security. While the shopping center is not known as a crime hot spot, police did fatally shoot a burglar behind the grocery store thirty years ago, in April of 1994. At the time, the store was a Fresh Fields supermarket.

Looks like they are too cheap to install more lamps for more even lighting but instead do this to placate the Gladys Kravitzes who spend all their time on Nextdoor.

Response to unreported crime kept quiet by Amazon/Whole Foods in the police so as not to deter shoppers.

Absolutely no way there’s been zero crime since 1970 in the strip mall with all the reported crime going on in this stretch of River Road and Westbard Avenue.

@5:22 - Brilliant, LOL. That and to ensure the Gladys' don't go ramming their Caddy's into WF anymore. Why bother otherwise if there hasn't been any crimes reported, per Dyer, since 1994. Or are you lying to make the rich folk feel safe at night. BTW, committing a crime and trying to speed off from that parking lot, would be next to impossible.

Speaking of Kenwood...any follow up on the person who drove into Whole Foods?

Blasting bright light in all directions worsens light pollution and is not necessarily the best way to protect public safety. Excess glare sometimes limits the visual ability of pedestrians and drivers while allowing criminals to lurk in the shadows created by the glare. Using properly directed and appropriately bright light is the the way to protect citizens, businesses, and property from criminals. More information can be found at this link.

The burning issue is all the caffeinated mamas racing their monstrous SUVs the wrong way out of the parking lot.
