Construction fencing has been erected around the future Lidl store in downtown Bethesda. This is the latest sign of work finally getting underway on the German supermarket's newest Montgomery County location, at 7625 Old Georgetown Road in the Bethesda Place apartments. It's unusual for fencing to be placed around a storefront during interior fit-out of an urban retail space. Perhaps there will be significant work on exterior design details, or simply a desire to utilize the outdoor space for materials and equipment storage.

Why is it unusual? The entrance to the parking garage is fenced off. You can still see into the front of the store.
Please, please don't block the lane on Old Geo'twn right in front. Finally, after forever, that building next door is nearly done. The lane has been blocked off for at least two years. Every corner is a massive building. Can't move easily anywhere.

8:12 - Makes absolutely zero sense but you're entitled to post it. Actually, Robert approved your comment for post. So, you never travel down Old Geo'twn Road in Bethesda just passed the Wisc Ave intersection? That's lucky for you living in Olney out in the country where traffic and construction aren't daily interferences. For those who do live inside the beltway, the newer buildings are inevitable but their construction, often years in the making, does clog traffic with lane closures, etc. You make a silly quip but if saying that I am glad that the next door project is nearing completion and the lane soon reopening is whining than we are going to disagree on the mere definition of whine.
@jac I'm not 8:12, but I live across OGR from the new Lidl, so maybe my non-Olney perspective matters. I'm able to move about Bethesda wonderfully, thank you. Not sure what your issue is, but it is simply YOUR ISSUE. You're a whiner, about big buildings (lions), lane closures (tigers), and most every other topic (bears, oh my!).
8:04 - Offering a take, shared by many who frequent that corridor, on traffic patterns altered by new construction, garners such a response, and is labeled whining, is really amazing. I never once said anything negative about the new construction itself mind you but rather that I was glad to see the project next door nearing completion and hoping the grocery store won't close the lane down again, that's all. Lastly, you move freely thru Bethesda? How, on a bike? The traffic, right now, today, in the downtown sector of Bethesda, is, affected, to be nice, by multiple projects. You just disagree. Fine. Why not just say?

If JAC actually made comments like this then people wouldn't hate him so much. Instead, his actual comments are just ridiculous hyperbole and constant whining about how "[e]very corner is a massive building. Can't move easily anywhere." We get it: you don't like downtown Bethesda post-1950. Just move on and drive to a different neighborhood instead of driving here, then. It's not like downtown Bethesda is magically going to have fewer new buildings if you keep complaining year after year.
8:43 - Grossly inaccurate, overly exaggerated and ad hominem. Typical keyboard bomb thrower who not only fails to simply disagree but rather attacks an honest take on an issue. Most importantly, doesn't offer anything of substance to counter nor contribute. That's easy to do isn't folks? Drive to a different neighborhood? Doesn't like Bethesda post 1950? JAC - I'm 8:04 and 8:42. I didn't write 8:43, but I agree with everything they said except the use of the word "hate". My grandmother would slap my teeth out if I said that word about anything or anyone because it's hateful in itself. I don't hate anyone.
That being said, 8:43 was otherwise spot-on. You draw such ire from so many posters because you are ridiculously obnoxious. You are an old man screaming at the clouds about life. How sad it must be for you. You react to every issue with negativity and a pretentious thought that you speak for most Bethesdians. You don't, mere demographics prove that. You are a sad grumpy old man. Then when you're called out, you wither and say you are just an individual speaking your opinion, and why is everyone being so mean to you? waah. No awareness how nasty, negative, and blowhardy you were to draw the criticism.
Everything 8:43 said resonated with me. You are a guy who hates big buildings, you hate traffic, you hate change, you hate Bethesda as it is today. You hate, and it's clear in your posts. I may turn my gramma on you.
And yes, maybe Bethesda has outgrown you and you should move on to be happy. You can't be happy being such a curmudgeon, it's unhealthy.
8:31 - I appreciate that reply. You say you reject the word hate so let's use dislike. I dislike traffic being snarled by large projects and other development in the Bethesda downtown sector but never said anything about the buildings themselves. Many of the new projects are great additions. I've been around since birth and have opined many times about whether this development is smart growth or not. That's all regarding multi use buildings going up, etc. You lob quite a few accusations none of which are accurate. I've never spoken for all of Bethesda, am not obnoxious, screaming, angry or any other epithet you've waged here. Bethesda is great and I've enjoyed it for decades. I have strong opinions. If you don't like them, offer a counter view, ignore or move on. Lastly, make sure you reply directly, as you've done here, to others who post on this blog who have similar takes. That would be the decent thing to do wouldn't it? We don't know each other so you have no idea who or what I am or anyone else who posts here. Remember that.
