Update on Mussel Bar's return to Bethesda

Earlier this month, I broke the news that Mussel Bar & Grille would be returning to downtown Bethesda just over two years after it closed its original Bethesda Row location. There is now a target opening date of early June for the restaurant at its new spot, 4903 Cordell Avenue. Two other updates: There will be outdoor seating. Operating hours are expected to be 11:00 AM to midnight, seven days a week.

If they have a good bar setup, and do a second happy hour (starting at 9pm) like SaltLine does, they could do really well late night.

It's absolutely tiny though number one. Two, the other local website did not credit you for breaking the news. How gouche.

The problems with that location:

Greenhill property
Incredibly small.
High rent.
Labor is expensive

That combination is going to make having reasonable prices painfully difficult.
Cogs for restaurants are up, consumer expectations are stuck in the early 2000s when stuff was cheap, and foot traffic is down.

I wish them the best of luck but it's a difficult space to make work snd restaurants have a high fail rate even for experienced operators.
