New Bethesda rat-resistant trash can operation (Video)


Here's a look at how the new rat-resistant trash cans beginning to appear in downtown Bethesda operate. You can grab the handle to pull it open, or you can step on the pedal for hands-free operation. The cans eliminate the open top access that rodents can take advantage of. And, as I mentioned in my earlier report, the tougher material prevents rats from gnawing their way in from underneath the can, which has also been an issue with the existing trash receptacles.

Really like the hands free feature. Beats having to touch grungy flaps and handles.

So as expected, BUP's infinite wisdom has backfired Area businesses & individuals are now starting to leave whole full bags of garbage around the new cans because they don't fit anymore. So it's going to be worse than ever, just like those garbage strikes of 'yore...
