Bethesda construction update: BabyCat Brewery (Photos)

Work is proceeding slowly but steadlily at the future BabyCat Brewery at 4829 Rugby Avenue in the Gallery Bethesda II apartment tower in downtown Bethesda. The early 2025 target opening came and went, and the current July target doesn't look very realistic at the moment. A nice brick wall with an arched opening is visible inside the space, so there may have been a tradeoff for quality over speed in the decor. You can still cool off with a BabyCat brew at their original location right now at 10241 Kensington Parkway over in Kensington.

Everything about this looks great. The beer I am sure will be good and the atmosphere, from the photos on their site, looks inviting. If the food is on point, this may indeed be a great addition to the downtown area. It's tucked away and sort of segregated from the rest of the vibe in Woodmont Triangle which I like. But making sure people know where you are, and an active social media promotional campaign will be key. Gone are the days when you can simply open your doors and hope customers will walk thru. Kensington is different though and definitely less expensive than Edgemoor, etc. Kensington is also less fussy and real and not stuck up. Bottom line, there are many families who can walk to this new location or are a close drive away. Youg professionals and folks with young kids will be the bread and butter here it seems like. Hopefully they are out there cause this is cool and reminds me of Atlanta which has many of these kinds of places and they are fun.

Wonder if they'd rather have had the Rock.Botton space!? At least things can't get too unruly with the police across the street on rugby.

Agree with your points. However, I fear downtown Bethesda has become a glorified assisted-living facility, with a transient population of 70+ empty nesters who will not frequent this brewpub and it will close in 22 months.

Looking forward to this great addition to Bethesda!
