Robbers have struck Geste Beer & Wine at 4801 Edgemoor Lane in Bethesda three days in a row this week. Yesterday, July 10, 2025, at 2:39 PM, Montgomery County police responded to a call regarding a strong-arm robbery at the store. The previous night, July 9, the robbers were armed when they threatened the cashier to obtain cash from the register. They were also armed the day before that, as I reported yesterday.
The store has been targeted by robbers repeatedly since last year. At the time, the owner asked the County to increase police patrols in the area. That's a challenge, as the County Council has defunded and repeatedly verbally undermined the police, with 194 officers leaving the force since 2020, and 179 officer positions sitting vacant, according to a 2024 County Council staff memo.

Maybe (if it's legal) change the store's policy to accept payments by credit/debit only?
Store owners have got to protect and defend. Get armed and get trained. These crooks start getting shot. They're going to think twice and that's a fact
Yes, it's allowed to be credit only. Jetty's in Bethesda (Veteran's Park) does it, and so does Sweetgreen I believe.
But I bet the store gets a bunch of cash buyers among the homeless, who are regular customers.
Capitulation to bad governmental policy towards criminals makes one their own prisoner. Sad times that the current voter base is unlikely to change.
12:56 - It will not change no matter what it seems. Totally insane. No, the woke mop rules here.
There's a great scene from a movie I like - TAXI DRIVER - that shows what should happen to these "scum"
