How sweet it isn't. The popular Max Brenner chocolate shop space is for lease at Bethesda Row. According to the online listing by Bethesda real estate firm Streetsense, it is 2152 SF in size, and apparently available immediately.
There was talk in the past that a sub-lease was being sought for the space, despite the apparent success of the store. In fact, it had the longest lines at opening since Georgetown Cupcake, which still holds the record at Bethesda Row.

It isn't anything special. I went twice and was little impressed. That's a lot of rent to pay for just chocolate.
I have a feeling Bethesda's other two soon-to-open chocolate shops will suffer the same fate. Not the right market.
Yeah I think it's just a tough idea to do well with. How many people say: "Hey kids, let's go out for chocolate!". Ice cream maybe, but not chocolate.
Their market is people who have already eaten, and likely after dinner, and who aren't allergic to chocolate (yes, poor souls).
This is terrible news. We have the Au Pair pick up Max's every week for us. I guess we will have to start sending her to that new candy store. Will not be the same, though.
We have passed Peak Cupcake.
6:57am, definition of a first world problem...
I generally don't like the trolls on this blog, but I am fan of this family with the yacht and the au pair.
New candy places will also fail. Correct.
I suspect that a real specialty chocolate shop, like Cocova downtown, would do well.

Lol yeah. Can never tell if they're being serious or not.
If they are, it's actually pretty sad. In any case, their comments are hilarious either way!
