Sweetbay Yoga to take over RadioShack space at Westwood Shopping Center

The space that belonged to RadioShack for decades at the Westwood Shopping Center finally has a tenant. Sweetbay Yoga expects to move in this month. A yoga studio continues the trend towards fitness among new tenants at the Equity One Westwood retail centers.

Two other vacant spaces in Westwood Center II have been filled by fitness-related businesses - Pulse Fitness and East West Tae Kwon Do. At the Westwood Shopping Center, the recently-vacated Beyda's Lad and Lassie space remains vacant.

Dyer stopped hating on Equity One just long enough to post some sponsored content for them.

Mixed feelings on this. While I fully support the spread of Yoga in any progressive community, strip mall Yoga studios are usually about as reputable as strip mall dentists who accept drop-ins.

We shall see. They certainly can't plan on being open for very long considering they are opening in a location slated for demolition.

@Poppy. Please keep your progressive propaganda and your inventive reports to your own satire blog. Announcing how progressive you are is simply gauche.

@ 8:35 AM - Hear, hear. There is only enough room here for Dyer's propaganda, inventive reports and self-parody.

I thought this was Poppy's new small business?

Surprised to see a new tenant in light of Westbard's impending redevelopment.

Yes, with high fashion yoga togs.

Must be a short term lease.

Anagram of Sweetbay Yoga = gay boy sweat

Agreed. Doesn't give tenant much of a chance to build business. Hope that the rent is minimal (as the TIs no doubt are.)

New Westbard will have 4 yoga studios.

Hi everybody

I own Sweetbay Yoga and I live in the community! I fully understand it's a short term lease, until they take it down. Come visit for yourself. As for "strip mall yoga" ... I've learned it's the only type of lease a yoga person can hope for, given the demanding rents. In my new space, you forget that you're in a shopping center. I've been creating this community in Bethesda for over a decade (check out our website www.sweetbayyoga.com) and I am a fully certified Iyengar yoga teacher - one of the most reputable in the business. I currently teach at the Chevy Chase Club, as well as Unity Woods Yoga in downtown Bethesda.

Besides general yoga for everyone, we offer Sweetbay Silvers for older students and anyone wanting a gentler practice, and we offer BeYummy (youth united through mindfulness meditation and yoga) - a teens group promoting self-awareness, yoga and service. This summer we're going to India to study and to help at a children's center.

Certainly too much information for this blog. I was trying to update the google address and came across your comments. Would love to see you all at Sweetbay Yoga!!

ps new teachers coming on board, not just Iyengar...
