Construction is now underway on the new Trader Joe's grocery store at 5335 Wisconsin Avenue NW in Friendship Heights. The store is in the Chevy Chase Pavilion mall. It will be the new anchor tenant for the property, replacing H&M. Located in Washington, D.C., it will be allowed to sell beer and wine, unlike grocery chains that operate under Montgomery County's antiquated liquor laws.

It's a state law, not county.
Selling beer and wine at the DC TJs will compete with Rodmans and MaGruders.
Where do they get enough food and find enough qualified individuals do work at all these close in proximity stores?
You are so wrong on this. It is the law of MoCo NOT the state. I suggest you check where alcoholic beverages are sold in any other MD county.
12:50 great job being equal parts confident and wrong. A simple Google search could solve that ignorance for you.
It’s a state law.

12:30 - That's a great question. And all other TJ's locations will remain open? I think I recall Robert reporting this earlier. Now, they'll have 3 stores on Wisconsin Ave. How about a WF? Bethesda would be a sweet spot. Other location in Friendship Heights is a little far for folks on the one side and Rockville a little far on the other. Whole Foods instead of this Lidl, would have been huge and done extremely well.
@ JAC - there is another Whole Foods on River Road in Westbard.
JAC, WF also has that location on River Road. Plus, sister Amazon Fresh now has two locations that are relatively close: FH and CC Lake.
I still am a bit surprised that neither Sprouts, The Fresh Market, MOM's (which recently opened a location in downtown Silver Spring), nor Wegmans (even considering its upcoming Twinbrook location) has something in or near downtown Bethesda.
9:45 Maybe you should have a talk with your boy Larry, since he has no job now, let him tackle the task.
9:38 - Yeah, I forgot about that one. That center would have done better limiting the number of retailers. The parking lot is often jammed.
11:53 - I agree on Sprouts and Fresh Market. Both are excellent. The Wegmans should be interesting.
Over-crowded parking lots are a Trader Joe's trademark.
I think the TJs near Bradley (by Target) will likely close.
A few folks got off topic here slightly talking about beer and liquor ban, etc. But anyone still following this, might find this very interesting. Wes Moore was not my choice but this is a great move by him: https://foxbaltimore.com/news/local/governor-moore-backs-lifting-marylands-ban-on-grocery-store-beer-and-wine-sales
