Old Georgetown Grille at 7755 Old Georgetown Road in downtown Bethesda will reopen for business tomorrow, Monday, December 22, 2025, after a deep cleaning is completed this evening. The remediation effort this weekend was necessitated by the recent fire inside of the neighboring Colonial Opticians. That business was forced to permanently close due to smoke and fire damage inside its space. The OG Grille will also eventually permanently close, as the building will be torn down to make way for a new apartment building.

This place has survived for a long time. I'm my opinion, not the greatest food. To be fair, to Tastee isn't great either but more of an institution. Their days may indeed be numbered as well. What never gets any love is the Pancake House. Every item I've had on their large menus is really good. What really makes a breakfast place stand out? The coffee. Pancake House coffee is always hot and quite good. Tastee Diner coffee has always been horrible for whatever dumb reason. I don't get that.
Serious question: Who are all these people moving to this endless new apartment construction?
Why is the optician shop fire being investigated by an out of state New Hampshire company Nefco? When I watch Chicago PD on Wednesday nights, the one character from the local fire house does all the sketchy type investigation cases.
We love the Old Georgetown Grill. The food is great and the family that runs it are wonderful people. Where else can you get a gyro on pita with chips for breakfast. Hopefully that new construction, like many Bethesda projects, will be delayed for at least 10 years.

We’ve enjoyed it too, watching cars going by with coffee/waffles/newpaper in the morning. Don’t go often, but a nice break.
Surprisingly, Tastee Diner has better pancakes than OPH. OPH has better coffee.

12:27 - Cinco, interesting. Tastee pancakes are good, I agree.The best bacon is Pancake House. OPH overall is the best traditional breakfast in the area. Old Georgetown Grill never has a wait on weekends, Tastee used to but no longer does and OPH does every weekend in both Bethesda and Rockville. That should tell you something.
I saw a crew conducting core sampling in front of Nazlymov fencing a few weeks ago. This building site may qualify for the 20 year property tax abatement. Commercial space that is at least two stories tall and at least 50 percent vacant qualifies for the tax abatement.
5:04: That's exactly why Councilmember Friedson put that tax cut through for the developers. These projects were already happening anyway, but they sought - and obediently got - that additional windfall from taxpayers courtesy of their puppets on the Council. Remember, he did the same thing for the Grosvenor Metro project that was already going ahead. Where's the local legacy press on this clear corruption and ethics violation?
