Montgomery County police responded to two assaults in broad daylight in downtown Bethesda over the weekend. On Friday, August 28, 2026, an individual was jumped by multiple assailants in the 7400 block of Wisconsin Avenue at 3:44 PM. The suspects physically assaulted the victim, and robbed them of unspecified property. Yesterday afternoon at 4:28 PM, officers responded to a 2nd-degree assault in the 4800 block of Cordell Avenue. No descriptions of any of the suspects involved have been released as of this writing. Both incidents again highlight the disturbing 2026 trend of violent crimes increasingly being perpetrated during daylight hours.

Shoot first, ask questions later. Better off with a non-lethal device though. This is not what you would call a pro 2A area.
Just to be clear, were both of these reported as taking place outdoors? Because if either happened inside a building, the "broad-daylight" thing isn't really relevant.

Class are forming at the SAO to educate both potential assailants and would be victims in order to avoid such altercations in the future.
There is no need for widespread panic. They got this under control:
“We are seizing upon educational opportunities to go out and try to use education, not arrests. Not ‘lock them up’ kinds of things, because to me, if I can prevent crime, if I can prevent victimization, and I think through educational programs we can do all of those things, it would be a much safer community,” McCarthy said.
Super-happy to learn about this days later, rather than being able to hear about it on a scanner, as it occurred, when extra eyes in the vicinity might have spotted a pack of people running.

Thank goodness police were able to maintain operational security with encrypted radio comms, which *clearly* made all the difference in their catching the guys who — one moment please, I’m being handed a paper.
It is going to be a challenge dealing with the influx of tourism.
We've been told from another all-knowing millennial that this is normal and has happened since the turn of the century.
Talk about petty 'second guessing!' Jeez 1150. And lets all make the crime foisted upon us as minimized as possible. Should there be new statutes for crimes under artificial light now too?
Maybe we can steer our old and new thieves to the houses with the inviting signage and they can get their money from them directly rather that via our ever increasing taxes?
