Restaurateur extraordinaire Steve Salis has purchased the former Woodmont Grill restaurant building at 7715 Woodmont Avenue in downtown Bethesda. He plans to turn it into a Ted's Bulletin, one of several concepts within his hospitality portfolio. The location served Woodmont Grill - and Houston's before that - well, as it was widely considered to be the highest volume restaurant in downtown Bethesda prior to its abrupt closure last year.
Salis has experience in the downtown Bethesda market, ranging from the very successful &Pizza to the innovative but short-lived Ensemble. But the question of placing a modern homage to diners next door to the real-deal Tastee Diner could be his boldest challenge yet. News of the real estate transaction and Salis' plans were broken by UrbanTurf.

I was very glad to see this because it means no bulldozer obviously and a local chainlet is coming in versus some bland, national chain. Ted's is definitely light years ahead of many (I can't think of an analogy) but it is no Houston's clearly. I think overall this is a great addition. Please don't touch a thing inside and all will be well.

Ted's Bulletin will be a good addition. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. With all the bagel buzz recently, it's clear the Woodmont Triangle needs more breakfast options.
It's good to see an established operator take over the space and can provide stability.

9:50 - Nice to see someone else saying what I have said for a long time. TD is an institution but you got to keep up with what's happening in the dining world. Their food could be so much better but it's crarp. It's not even funny at this point. Philadelphia and New Jersey diners are probably the best in the country and every single item is scratch made. TD coffee is among the worst cup of Joe I've had in my life. Ted's bulletin will crush them at least for the breakfast service.
What's wrong with having a bagel for breakfast?
11:34am nothing wrong with bagels. I'm just saying there weren't many options in the Woodmont Triangle to get a nice breakfast. Ted's provides that.
Tastee's pancakes are better than OPH's.
Tastee Diner should have taken the Marriott Money. Oh well.

There is literally no good breakfast place in downtown Bethesda. Every block has a bakery, but no real good "cheap" breakfast. Teds seems to be pretty fair priced and has eggs! Sourdough as a bread option, and not a ton of BREAD. Honestly sick of every damn place serving BREAD!!!!!!!!! We wonder why we are all fat! TD in DTSS was the worst, but the one in Bethesda is very close. Everything is covered in seed oils and there 0 quality.

Amidst the applause for the new arrival, do bear in mind the only similarities between Tastee Diner and this new venture are proximity and basic food group, and even that latter is a fair stretch. It's rather like insisting the new BMW 7-series is going to thrash a mid-90s Corolla. Enjoy Ted's $32 hangar steak & eggs & frisee salad, the $29 crab cake Benedict, the $17 Denver omelet, the $20 huevos ranchero or avocado toast, but please, don't pretend these are better versions of what the longstanding greasy spoon around the corner is serving. Ted's is a mid-tier, moderate-price restaurant; the Diner is what passes in this economy for inexpensive, grab-n-go grub. The two serve largely different markets.

I think this should be good. Would have preferred to see a true Silver Diner with late hours (not that Silver American BS) for good diner food. But I guess Ted's is close. We'll have to see on the hours.
I do miss Woodmont Grill, but Glenwood's and Clyde's up in Tower Oaks are pretty good and similar.

5:00AM - Everyone needs to understand how disgusting Tastee Diner is. It could be great even with the occasional bad oils you mentioned. If they took a class from NJ or Philly diners, mostly excellently run by Greek families, that would help. They had their time for sure but that time has passed. They really need to go now. I'm sorry to say this but I don't think many will miss them if they closed. Ted's could indeed become the best breakfast in town. But remember, they serve lunch and dinner too.
There's some irony in the $7 million sale price - that was Marriott's final offer to Tastee Diner in 2017, which they turned down, of course.
