BETHESDA OUTDOOR MOVIES 2013

Outdoor movies return to the Woodmont Triangle area of downtown Bethesda July 23-27, 2013, at 9:00 PM each evening. The annual outdoor movie series is organized and sponsored by Bethesda Urban Partnership. This is the ninth year, for those keeping score at home.

Movies will be shown at the corner of Norfolk and Auburn Avenues. Look up and check out all 17 stories of luxury building The Gallery, currently under construction, while waiting for the movie to start.

There will be limited chairs available, so FYI: BYOC, if you want to be sure of having a seat.

This year's movie titles are:

Tuesday, July 23:
The Princess Bride
"Inconceivable!"

Wednesday, July 24:
Rear Window
Jimmy Stewart, Grace Kelly.

Thursday, July 25:
Back to the Future
One of the Top 10 movies of all time, in my book.

Friday, July 26:
The Hunger Games
You may have heard of this cult classic.

Saturday, July 27:
Life of Pi
Some guy on a raft. Wait a minute, I just saw this at Bethesda Row Cinema, and it was called Kon-Tiki.

Bethesda UP has a directory of nearby restaurants for pre (outdoor)-theater dining. Please note that two of the restaurants listed have changed: Uptown Deli is now an Indian wok restaurant called Kadhai, and Wing Hub is now Maggie's but still has the Wing Hub wings on their menu - if that's not confusing!

There are some other notable restaurants not listed, including the brand-new Brickside Food & Drink, Smoke BBQ and Latin favorite, The Parva.

EVERYBODY MOVE YOUR BODY: DIRTY DANCING BETHESDA ROW OUTDOOR MOVIE UNDER THE STARS TONIGHT!

Equinox and Redwood at Bethesda Row have gone all out on the Dirty Dancing theme for tonight's grand finale of Movies Under the Stars on Bethesda Lane.

Yes, it's another "ladies night" at Bethesda Row.

Show up early for a FREE cardio dance class at Equinox (corner of Woodmont Avenue and Elm Street).  6:30-7:30 PM.

If that's too much, Equinox will have a 15-minute dance warm-up right on Bethesda Lane at 8:15 PM.

For those who just want to dine and enjoy the movie, head to the patio at Redwood.

They'll serve up a Watermelon and Tomato Salad, "Dirty" house-made chips and salsa, and two adult beverages:  Lemon "Merengue" Pie Cocktail, and the "I Carried a Watermelon" Cocktail.

Not having seen the movie, I have to assume those drink names mean something to those of you who have.

Great weather is expected, so make plans to be at Bethesda Row tonight to close out the summer.

Movie starts at dusk.

WILL YOU BE PRETTY IN PINK TONIGHT AT BETHESDA ROW OUTDOOR MOVIES UNDER THE STARS? WEARING PINK WILL PAY OFF!

This is definitely Ladies Night at Bethesda Row.

Make sure to wear pink to tonight's outdoor movie on Bethesda Lane, and you'll get all kinds of benefits.  Like Pretty in Pink cocktails at Redwood for only $5.  And 10% off at Bethesda Row shops City Sports, Ginger and Urban Chic.  But only if you're wearing pink!

The movie will start after dusk (around 8:45 PM).

Tonight's screening of Pretty in Pink has again inspired Redwood to create a themed menu:

Pretty in Pink popcorn

Salmon Rillettes

Raspberry mousse

Plus, Redwood's outdoor patio seating will give you the best seat in the house!

GHOSTBUSTERS! BETHESDA ROW OUTDOOR MOVIES UNDER THE STARS TONIGHT AT DUSK

Wear your proton packs on Bethesda Lane tonight, as Bethesda Row and Redwood unleash the supernatural forces of the 1980s with the 1985 classic, Ghostbusters.

The movie and the popcorn are FREE at dusk, but show up early for arts and crafts sponsored by Kidville, and FREE soft serve samples from Puree Juice Bar.

But don't stop there!  Refresh yourself with Redwood's Ghostbuster Cocktail, an otherworldly concoction of cucumber juice, vodka, lime and St. Germain.  Just don't try to drive the Ecto-1 after one too many of these.

Redwood also is serving beer-battered codfish tacos with avocado sauce, and is saving the best for last:  Stay Puft Marshmallow Man S'mores!

Dine at Redwood, and you'll also have the best seat in the house, because their patio is on the lane.

BETHESDA OUTDOOR MOVIES!

Summer is just around the corner.  In downtown Bethesda, that means - among other things - outdoor movies.

There are two annual outdoor movie festivals in Bethesda, one sponsored by the Bethesda Urban Partnership in "Old Town" Bethesda, and a second at Bethesda Row.

Mark your calendars - or tell Siri - for the evenings of July 24 through July 28 at 9:00 pm.  That's when Bethesda UP will host its outdoor movie spectacular at the corner of Norfolk and Auburn Avenues.

Here is the 2012 lineup of movies:

Tuesday, July 24:  Stand By Me

Wednesday, July 25:  Vertigo

Thursday, July 26:  The Muppets (the recent one)

Friday, July 27:  Crazy Stupid Love

Saturday, July 28:  Hugo

Bring your own chair (BYOC).  You can also bring food from any one of the many restaurants nearby.  I would personally suggest hot dogs from Bold Bite, or lobster rolls from Freddy's Lobster.

Admission is FREE!

Which movie is the best?  It would have to be Vertigo with Jimmy Stewart, of course!
