Sidewalk work on Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda

Sidewalk work is underway on Woodmont Avenue in the vicinity of Bethesda Chocolates at 8003 Woodmont in Bethesda. Part of the sidewalk was closed Friday, but it was still possible to pass. A permit is posted at the site, regarding restoration of brick pavers to conform with downtown Bethesda streetscape guidelines. Construction Heroes of Rockville is the contractor performing the work.

Sidewalk repairs (and closures) expand to Elm Street in Bethesda (Photos)

Pedestrians beware: the sidewalk closures for repairs have expanded across town to the Bethesda Row/Shoppes of Bethesda area on Elm Street. There are several closures on the Shoppes of Bethesda side of Elm Street between Arlington Road and Woodmont Avenue. Unlike the closures on St. Elmo Avenue, where pedestrians are entering the roadway to get down the street, the sidewalk on the Bethesda Row side of the street remains open.

Sidewalk work blocks both sides of St. Elmo Avenue in Bethesda

Some sidewalk repairs are underway in the Woodmont Triangle on St. Elmo and Norfolk Avenues. A sign says to cross to the other side on St. Elmo Avenue, but that sidewalk is also blocked at the Sophia Bethesda construction site. As a result, there is currently no safe through-route for pedestrians on St. Elmo sidewalks between Old Georgetown Road and Norfolk Avenue.

A WSSC crew was working at the intersection of Old Georgetown Road and Commerce Lane late Friday night, on what appeared to be a water main break. Meanwhile, repairs blocked part of the sidewalk on Elm Street by SoulCycle.

Sidewalk work in the Woodmont Triangle (Photos)

A lot of small sidewalk repairs were made this week all over the Woodmont Triangle neighborhood in downtown Bethesda. In addition to these shown here, I also saw a crew fixing the curb along Old Georgetown Road between Wilson Lane and Cordell Avenue. By last night, virtually all of these were completed.

Sidewalk work on Cordell Avenue (Photos)

Repairs have closed portions of the sidewalks along Cordell Avenue between Old Georgetown Road and Norfolk Avenue. Sections of the sidewalk have been replaced with new concrete near the M&T Bank and La Panetteria restaurant. All businesses remain open during the sidewalk closures, but pedestrians should be prepared to navigate blockades on both sides.

Sidewalk work all over the Woodmont Triangle (Photos)

As some character in the Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? game used to say, "all I can tell you is to watch your step," when walking around the Woodmont Triangle neighborhood of downtown Bethesda. Several sidewalk repairs are underway.
