GAP SIGNS ON AT PIKE & ROSE

The White Flint (Pike District?) area will again have a Gap store, as the ubiquitous clothing chain has joined the growing number of retail tenants at Pike & Rose. I'd heard about this more than a month ago, but Federal Realty is now publicly confirming the addition.

Gap is an interesting choice, as it definitely signals a broader target retail audience for Pike & Rose than the higher-end boutiques of Bethesda Row, another Federal Realty development. And, of course, it fills the current Gap vacuum in that market, with the closure of the White Flint location.

What other unconfirmed rumors have you heard on Pike and Rose?!

I'm driving by this every day now and it seems like the very front of Le Madeleine is surviving demolition an awfully long time.

You're right that these new developments need a mix of retailers and not just high-end. People mocked you yesterday for saying 7-11 activates a block, but people need basic groceries, a drug store, etc. Example: in England they have Tesco Express downtown and if you want the full Tesco experience you drive outside of town. There can't be a Wegman's everywhere.

Bob,
I'm just an average guy. I like the idea that I can walk downstairs from my apartment and pick up some Pocket Ts at Pike & Rose.

Gap's move here is interesting, but not entirely surprising. THey clearly doesn't mind being surrounded by high-end retailers.

Gap is probably the cheapest, and the only "mainstream," store among the two dozen or so in Friendship Heights Village (MD) on Wisconsin Ave. That so-called "Rodeo Drive of the East" boasts retailers such as Jimmy Choo, Saks (at least 3 stores), Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and...Gap.

(There is a TJ Maxx on the southern periphery of the DC side of Friendship Heights though)
