Bethesda construction update: West Lane Apartments (Photos)

The West Lane Apartments are nearing completion at 4901 Montgomery Lane in downtown Bethesda. A brick facade similar to that of the new Hampden Row project covers most of the exterior now, with the notable exception of the dramatic curve where the lobby entrance is located. It appears balconies will be modest in size, and still lack railings at this stage. The 112-unit building has been scheduled for delivery this coming Spring. SJG Properties is the developer. Change your apartment, change the world!

Looks like a handsome addition to the neighborhood. Designed by SK+I, the same architects that did the Flats of Bethesda Avenue and the Darcy, and are doing the ZOM project on Arlington. These guys seem to really care about design. Not just big boxes and balconies. A nice variety of massing, multiple brick colors, sheltering entrances, sleek rooftop amenities. All with fully underground parking, which is always welcome.

I think the curving glass wall will be a nice foil for their small plaza. I also like the charcoal grey iron spot brick accents. A nice way to add some interest to the façade.

This building looks much better that the nearby Lauren and the new Toll Brothers condo projects. I can not understand the logic behind the use of flamed red granite at the Lauren. Unless their goal was to spend a ton of money, but still make it look like pink DryVit. I'm not surprised that these condos are selling poorly. They look like cheap apartments in Florida.

Are you that insecure or that jealous of Mr. Reimer that you immediately delete comments about pre-paying property taxes? As the fair and honest journalist you claim to be, isn’t it only fair to mention a program that could save many of your readers money? You should be ashamed of yourself - get over your unhealthy fixation on Hans and report on what matters.

You should investigate the horrific damage the builders Clark and SJg did to the neighboring Villages of Bethesda Townhome community. Thats the real story.
